PDP Chairman Ayu Says Nigeria Is In A War Situation

The National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr IYORCHIA AYU, has said that it is unfortunate that the country seems to be in a war situation under the administration of President MUHAMMADU BUHARI.

He said this at the weekend at the party's headquarters in Abuja while speaking with journalists.

The former Senate President, who said the level of insecurity under the watch of a retired general was threatening the foundation and unity of the country, rued the intractable banditry, killings and kidnappings.

He said the PDP provided security for the citizens when it was in power and called on the electorate to rally around the party in 2023 so as to save the country from further security threats.

Buhari Condemns Gruesome Killings In Kaduna

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has condemned the renewed killings by gunmen in Kaduna State.

According to a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, GARBA SHEHU, President BUHARI, particularly condemned the gruesome incidents in Kauran Fawa, Marke and Ruhiya of Idasu Ward of Giwa Local Government Area, saying he was really saddened by them.

The President's reaction came shortly after he returned from Istanbul.

He also extended his condolences to the Government of Kaduna State and the people in the affected local governments.

In addition, he also sent the nation's condolences to the people of Zonkwa Chiefdom and the family of His Highness NUHU BATURE, the Agwam Kajju on his demise.

He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.

Speaking further, President BUHARI said that the security forces have turned the heat on the terrorists who are getting frustrated and are soft-targeting innocent citizens, looting their assets, burning their homes and killing them indiscriminately.

He reiterated his directive to the security and intelligence chiefs to do everything they can to destroy the remaining vestiges of the terrorists.

Death Toll In Kaduna Attack Rises To 38

The death toll in the latest bandit attacks on communities in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State has risen from 20 to 38.

Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr SAMUEL ARUWAN stated this in an update on Sunday.

ARUWAN had earlier on Sunday afternoon, said 20 people were killed but in an updated statement issued hours later, he noted that the death toll has risen from 20 to 38.

He gave the names of the attacked communities to include Kauran Fawa, Marke and Riheya.

Aruwan said 29 of the victims have been identified while the remaining nine are yet to be identified.

He further stated that, following the report of attacks by bandits across villages in Idasu, Giwa LGA, as contained in an earlier update, security agencies have confirmed to the Kaduna State Government that 38 people were killed across the locations attacked.

President Buhari Says Nigeria Will  Strengthen Security, Defence Ties With Turkey

President Muhammadu Buhari, has  said Nigeria will collaborate with the Republic of Turkey in dealing with the current security challenges facing the nation.

This comes as Buhari acknowledged that Turkey had garnered a lot of experience dealing with security challenges of various kinds and Nigeria will latch onto that experience.

The Nigerian President said this at a bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, shortly before the official commencement of the 3rd Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement titled ‘Nigeria, Turkey To Strengthen Security, Defence Ties.’

Shehu quoted the President as saying, “Turkey has practical experience dealing with challenges over the years and Nigeria stands to gain from that.”

Providing assurances that the relationship between the two states will continue to grow for the mutual benefits of both countries, Buhari said he was pleased with the Turkish offer of support in the area of security and peace in Nigeria.

“I wish to express my appreciation for the special invitation for this meeting and to express my happiness with your offer of assistance in dealing with the challenges facing us.

‘‘I await the reports of officials and the ministers as they hold meetings with their counterparts. I assure you that I will endorse all their positive recommendations,” President Buhari assured Erdogan.
