Senate President Lawan Says National Assembly Worried About Nigeria’s Borrowings

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has said the national assembly is concerned about the country’s level of borrowing.

There have been concerns about the country’s high level of borrowing.

Nigeria’s domestic debt stock is presently put around N18 trillion.

Speaking with reporters in Abuja, Lawan said Nigeria needs to generate more revenue to reduce its borrowing.

Lawan said,  “nobody likes taking loans or debt whether as an individual or a country”.

Terrorists Kill 52 Persons In Niger, Plateau Communities

Terrorists have killed fifty-two persons in separate attacks on communities in Plateau and Niger states.

While 18 persons were confirmed killed by gunmen who attacked the Ncha community in the Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, gunmen have also attacked two communities in Niger State, where they killed 34 persons.

The Niger State incident seemed to be reprisal as a few weeks ago some special hunters and local vigilantes killed scores of gunmen who were terrorizing the communities.

The gunmen launched the attack on Nakuna and Wurukuchi communities when the villagers were on their farms harvesting produce.

In Plateau State, the Irigwe ethnic nationality of Plateau state under the aegis of Irigwe Development Association said 18 people were killed in Ncha community.

In his reaction to the killings in Plateau State, Governor Simon Lalong expressed deep sadness over the attack.

He described the attack as another sad tale in the unending cycle of violent attacks in the area, which had continued despite several measures taken by the government.

Church Building Collapses In Okpanam, Delta State, 10 Feared Dead

The building housing Salvation Ministry, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State has collapsed, trapping unspecified number of worshippers, while about 18 persons have been rescued.

The building which is being used for the first time, it was gathered collapsed at about 5:55pm during Tuesday evening service.

About 18 persons have been rescued unhurt, while four persons have been rushed to the Asaba Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

Secretary to the Delta State Government, Patrick Ukah, who hails from Okpanam, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ononye Mordi, a team of Red Cross officers, and fire fighters were on ground on a rescue mission.

President Buhari Endorse Establishment Of Nigerian Diaspora Investment Trust Fund

President Muhammadu Buhari has endorsed the establishment of the Nigerian Diaspora Investment Trust Fund, a private sector investment window for Nigerians in the Diaspora to be able to support direct investments in the country.

Buhari also pledged support for the establishment of the Diaspora Intervention Fund to support the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission to fulfil its mandate.

He noted that the foreign exchange remittances by Nigerians in the Diaspora have not only helped families but enhanced the development index of Nigeria.

This is as he said Nigeria is open to welcoming the Diaspora Direct Investment by compatriots abroad.

He said this at the presentation of a compendium entitled +600 Diaspora Icons @60, published by the NiDCOM.

In her remarks, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa  said the idea of the compendium was to change the negative stereotypes by the activities of a few Nigerians who do not represent the country well.
