The governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has revealed that he has already prepared his will due to the spate of insecurity in the country.

Known to be outspoken about the insecurity in the nation, the governor said that he is confident that his family will not fight over his properties if anything happens to him.

Ortom made this statement on Wednesday when he received the team from the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) led by a representative of the Director-General, Mrs. Cecilia Gayya at Government House in Makurdi.

The governor said, “I have written my will. Me, I’m not afraid of anybody. If I die now, my family will not be fighting because of what I have. I have stated what I want.

“And those people who are keeping quiet about what is happening in Nigeria, I want to tell them that they have children. Yes, because silence is consent. So, Nigerians must resist the evil that is happening’’.

To education, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, has said lecturers should not be blamed if academic activities were grounded in the university.

The union accused the Federal Government of deliberately destroying the country’s educational system and toying with the future of Nigerian children.

Chairman of ASUU chapter of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Chinedu Ihejirika, told reporters that the federal government was deliberately forcing ASUU to shut all public universities, nationwide by reneging to honour the Memoranda of Understanding and Memoranda of Action the association agreed with the government since 2009.

National President of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke, in a monitored Programme also accused the federal government of paying lip-service to its promises.

Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Don Adinuba, has said that there would be no fanfare at the inauguration of governor-elect, Charles Soludo on March 17, 2022.

He also added that the inauguration would only last for twenty minutes.

Adinuba said the practice of hosting a crowd and having fanfare that normally characterized the inauguration of governors in the state would no longer be tolerated, noting that Soludo would immediately swing into action after inauguration.

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to declare a national emergency on ritual killings across the country.

The development was part of the resolutions reached by the lawmakers on a motion of urgent public importance entitled ‘Need to Curb the Rising Trend of Ritual Killings in Nigeria’.

Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Toby Okechukwu, moved the motion during Wednesday’s plenary at the lower chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja.

The motion comes against the backdrop of incessant killing of innocent Nigerians for ritual purposes, with one of the latest being the murder of Sofiat Okeowo in Ogun State.

Worried about the trend, the lawmakers called on the National Orientation Agency (NOA), as well as parents, heads of schools, religious leaders, and the media to undertake a campaign to change the negative narrative unsettling the society.
