Oshiomhole Urges Nigerians to Trust Tinubu’s Policies

Senator Adams Oshiomhole urges Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu's administration.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), inflation reached 34.19 percent in June 2024, highlighting the high cost of living driven largely by the floating of the naira and the removal of the fuel subsidy. Despite these challenges, Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the Senate, remains optimistic about Tinubu’s policies, calling for patience.

“You have to agree that some of the policy initiatives will require more than a year to materialize,” Oshiomhole said.

“What would the president gain by resorting to policy choices that are unlikely to deliver comfort in the long run? So, I think for me, it is about having faith that in the long run, these things will work out,” he added.

Joe Biden Withdraws From US Presidential Race Endorses Kamala Harris

President Joe Biden has announced that he will not seek re-election. Facing criticism from members of his party who believe his cognitive abilities are declining due to his age, 81, Biden made his decision known in a post on X.

“I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” he wrote in a statement on X.

Biden also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the upcoming November election.

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” he posted on X on Sunday.

“Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

Biden’s endorsement significantly boosts Harris's chances of becoming the Democratic Party’s candidate to challenge former President Donald Trump, who has been formally declared the Republican Party's candidate, in the November election.

I’m Unofficial APC Member – Philip Shaibu

Reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, declared himself an unofficial member of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday. Although he remains a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he acknowledged that he has not yet severed ties with the party.

Shaibu made these remarks during an appearance on a monitored program, explaining his support for the APC governorship candidate in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo. He stated that he no longer aligns with the PDP. "In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. The constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party," Shaibu said.

Recently, Shaibu donated campaign vehicles to Okpebholo, amidst his ongoing conflict with Governor Godwin Obaseki, which led to his impeachment as deputy governor. However, an Abuja Federal High Court reinstated Shaibu as deputy governor on Thursday.

"The attention of the Rivers State Government has been drawn to claims circulating in online media that the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has proposed to pay a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants in the state and local government areas," the statement read.

"Ordinarily, we would not have responded to this fake news, but for the wrong impression it would create in the minds of the public, especially civil servants in the state. Therefore, it is important to state that the unverified claims being circulated by Newsweekng.com, and titled: 'Breaking News: Governor Fubara Proposes N80,000 minimum wage' are totally false and misleading. The general public, and particularly civil servants in the state, are advised to discountenance the false claims in the online media platform.
