Nigerians Want Changes To Happen Quickly, Says Abdulsalami

Former Head of State, Retired General Abdulsalalmi Abubakar, has told the current administration of President Bola Tinubu that Nigerians need to see quick changes in the economy.

Abdulsalami said this when the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, paid courtesy visits to him and another former head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida.

He congratulated the administration of President Bola Tinubu for clocking 100 days in office with a charge on Nigerians to join hands with the government to overcome the challenges of fuel subsidy and insecurity inherited from former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was contained in a statement by the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Suleiman Haruna.

According to the Minister, the visits to elders are part of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The minister noted that the fatherly role they provided for this country over the years will continue to be appreciated.

Police Arrest 10 Suspects Over Fuoye Student’s Death

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with the death of a student of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (Fuoye), Modupe Deborah.

Its Public Relations Officer, DSP Abutu Sunday, made the announcement via the Command’s handle on X (formerly Twitter), adding that Deborah’s body was found in a shallow grave behind the Nursing Lecture Hall.

Sunday said further that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Ogundare Dare, has ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the young lady’s death.

The late 200-level Nursing student was declared missing within the school premises on Tuesday, 5th of this month, and her body has been deposited in the morgue for autopsy.

Some students of the institution later condemned the tragic killing of their colleague after staging a protest on the campus.

Meanwhile, the school authority has closed it down to prevent further escalation of the disturbances resulting from the incident.

Lagos Assembly Rejects Two, Confirms 15 Commissioner-Nominees

The Lagos State House of Assembly has confirmed 15 out of the second batch of 18 commissioner-nominees re-sent by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Assembly however rejected two former commissioners Olalere Odusote and Samuel Egube, who were initially stepped down while the other former officials were confirmed.

Those who scaled through the second process include Professor Akin Abayomi, Gbenga Omotosho, Cécilia Dada and Mosopefoluwa George.

The confirmation and rejection was done after the Chief Whip and Chairman of the screening committee, Mojeed Fatai, presented a report of the exercise before the House.

At a sitting presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, the House resolved to step down the confirmation of Sule Akibu for another legislative day.

Obasa commended the committee saying the members did a thorough job screening the nominees.

Akpabio Hails Tribunal Verdict, Tells Nigerians To Support Tinubu’s Govt

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has lauded the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), for affirming the victory of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2023 presidential election.

In a statement released by the Senate President’s Media Unit, Akpabio described the Court verdict as an affirmation of the popular mandate of the Nigerian people for the Tinubu/Shettima ticket of the APC as delivered at the polls in February.

The Senate President noted that the five-member panel painstakingly evaluated all the issues raised by the petitioners and delivered a clear verdict on the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

He asserted that it is clear to dispassionate observers that despite the challenges, Nigeria’s electoral process is making progress and deserves the appreciation and support of all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria.

Akpabio urged Nigerians to continue supporting the Tinubu government in its drive to deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda of the ruling APC.
