FG Inaugurates 15-Man Committee For 63 Independence Anniversary

The Federal Government has inaugurated a 15-man Inter-Ministerial Committee to organize the celebration of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day anniversary.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, inaugurated the committee in Abuja.

Akume who is the chairman of the committee, said the proposed activities for the celebration would be subject to finalization by the committee.

According to him, on October 1, there would be presidential broadcast by President Bola Tinubu, as part of the programmes lined up for the celebration, and Parade on October 2, 2023.

He said that there would be a world press briefing on 25th September, Juma’at Service on 29th September, Symposium/Public Lecture on 28th September, Church Service on 1st October.

Members of the committee are: Minister of Information and Culture; Minister of Interior, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister Foreign of Affairs.

Others include: Minister of the FCT, National Security Adviser, Inspector- General of Police, Director-General, Department of State Services and Commander, Guards Brigade.

Abia Labour Party Campaign Director’s Murder Confirmed By Police; Headless Body Recovered

The Abia State Police Command has verified the tragic killing of Labour Party chieftain Mr Zachary Nmaduka in Amelechi Akpukpa community, Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area.

The assailants ended his life and took away his severed head. This confirmation was issued by ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in a statement on Thursday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on September 13, 2023. Mr. Nmaduka, also known as "Power Zack," a 70-year-old from Ezieke Akpukpa Uturu, was attacked, shot, and beheaded at a local drinking establishment.

Upon receiving the distressing report, a combined team of police and army personnel promptly responded to the scene. Regrettably, they discovered Mr Nmaduka's lifeless body, which was documented through photographic evidence and later transferred to Marist Mortuary Uturu.

The statement revealed that investigations into the matter are currently underway. Before his untimely demise, the late Nmaduka was a prominent grassroots politician who vocally advocated against insecurity in various parts of Uturu.

Additionally, he held the position of campaign director for the Labour Party in the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency during the last general election.

In a recent development, the Abuja Court of Appeal has overturned the verdict of the National and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal in Asaba, Delta State.

The initial decision had named Ndudi Elumelu, representing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the victor in the 2023 Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency election in Delta State.

However, in a ruling issued on Thursday, the appellate court recognised Ngozi Okolie, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, as the rightful elected representative.

Sanwo-Olu Swears In Commissioners, Special Advisers

The State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has charged all the newly sworn-in Commissioners in the state to take their roles seriously and serve in the people's interest.

He stated this during the swearing- ceremony for the 37 Commissioners and Special Advisers at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.

Sanwo-Olu also tasked the new cabinet members to do their best and ensure their work reflects excellence by carrying the citizenry along.

Some of the Commissioners with their portfolios are Gbenga Omotoso (Information), Professor Akin Abayomi (Health), Lawal Pedro (Justice), and Tokunbo Wahab (Environment), among others.

Governor Sanwo-Olu promised his administration would deliver many infrastructural facilities before leaving office.
