Nigerian Major General Jailed For Stealing

A Nigerian Army Special Court-martial in Abuja found a former Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited (NAPL), Major General Umar Mohammed, guilty of stealing funds from the organisation.

General Mohammed was tried on an 18-count charge bordering on forgery, misappropriation of funds, and conspiracy. He had, however, earlier pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

But at the resumed sitting where the judgment was given, the eight-man panel led by Major General James Myam stated that the convicted senior military officer was found guilty of 14 out of 18 charges.

While explaining that the sentences would run concurrently, the court also directed that he should refund some funds into the account of NAPL.

Myam explained that the sentences are subject to the confirmation of “confirming authority”.

The Defence Counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), spoke after the judgment.

Atiku Denies Forging His Waec Certificate

The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has explained the discrepancies in his Ordinary Level (O Level) Certificate.

In a post on his X platform, Atiku offered the clarification through one of his aides and former Presidential aspirants of the party, Dele Momodu.

According to Momodu, the clarification follows allegations of forgery against his principal by All-Progressives Congress (APC) members, who had questioned the name” Sadiq Abubakar” in Atiku’s WAEC certificate as against his other credentials.

Momodu said Atiku used Sadiq Abubakar to sit for WAEC, and after passing the exams, he swore to an affidavit that he was the same person as Atiku Abubakar.

He went further that the former Vice President attended Ahmadu Bello University as Atiku Abubakar, passed with the name, and got into the Customs Service as Atiku Abubakar.

However, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, faulted the result.

Kano Dams Under Distress, Threatening Food Security

Farmers’ hope of sustaining all-year production with predicted bumper yields is under peril, with no less than 21 dams already in disrepair.

Furthermore, the bulk of dams built more than 40 years ago have been abandoned by successive governments, thus jeopardizing the country’s food security.

Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf, who revealed the dreadful status of the state’s dams, detailed the current administration’s frantic attempts to repair the irrigation system in order to meet both the agricultural and human demands of the people.

Gov. Yusuf made the revelation while receiving Minister of Water and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Terlumum Utsev, on courtesy at the government house in Kano, as represented by deputy Comrade Aminu Abdussalam.

In order to solve the acute supply of drinking water, the governor intimated that his administration has taken a great step to resuscitate the various sources of water works and irrigation systems.

Although the Governor stated that the efforts are already bearing fruit, particularly in the bumper crop of farm produce and the availability of clean water to 55% of the population, he also stated that the situation of dams in Kano remains a major danger to food security in the state.

Around 1,500 Bodies of Hamas Militants Have Been Discovered In Israel, Says Army

Around 1,500 dead of Hamas militants have been discovered in Israel near the Gaza Strip, the army said on Tuesday as it continued to bombard the Palestinian territory with air strikes.

“Approximately 1,500 bodies of Hamas (fighters) were found in Israel around the Gaza Strip,” military spokesman Richard Hecht told reporters, adding that security forces had “more or less restored control over the border” with Gaza.”Since last night we know that no one came in .. but infiltrations can still happen.”

The army had “nearly completed” evacuation of all the communities around the border, he added.

Hecht said the military had deployed 35 battalions to the border area.

Israel is suffering from a horrific onslaught by Hamas terrorists who stormed the border fence with a torrent of rocket fire on Saturday morning, killing over 900 Israelis.

In response, Israel has launched a major air and artillery bombardment on Hamas sites in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 687 people so far.

The Israeli military bombed what it said were Hamas targets in Gaza early Tuesday, particularly in the Rimal neighborhood and the southern city of Khan Yunis.
