FEC: Tinubu Swears In Three More Ministers

President Bola Tinubu administered the oath of office to three newly appointed ministers during a Monday morning ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The sworn-in ministers, Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Ayodele Olawande, and Balarabe Lawal, took their oaths at 12:15 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the State House. This solemn event took place just before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting, presided over by President Tinubu himself.

Including these ministers in the Cabinet follows their successful screening by the Senate on October 4, 2023, almost two weeks ago. President Tinubu nominated Jamila Bio Ibrahim as the Minister of Youth and Ayodele Olawande as the Minister of State for Youth on September 17, 2023. Additionally, he requested the Senate's screening and approval of Balarabe Lawal as the Minister representing Kaduna.

Balarabe Lawal, who previously held the position of Secretary to the Government under former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, now steps into the role of Minister of Environment in President Tinubu's cabinet, succeeding his former principal.

Jamila Bio Ibrahim, aged 37, hails from Kwara State and boasts a diverse background as a medical doctor, politician, development expert, and advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Before her recent appointment, she served as the National President of the APC Young Women Forum.

Ayodele Olawande, aged 34, is a seasoned community development expert and a prominent youth leader within the All-Progressives Congress. Before his nomination, Olawande served as a special adviser on innovation to former President Muhammadu Buhari, holding this position from 2019 to 2023. He also served in the office of Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Before the commencement of the meeting, the Council paused to observe a minute's silence in memory of Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, who passed away on July 1, 2023, at the age of 96. Ajose-Adeogun was appointed Minister of Federal Capital during the Murtala Mohammed military regime in 1976, serving in this capacity until 1979.

This gathering marked the second Federal Executive Council meeting since President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, reflecting the ongoing development and governance under his leadership.

NIPOST Staff Reject CEO Appointed By Tinubu, Shut Down Head Office

Workers of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) have staged a protest by closing the service's head office in Abuja in opposition to the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as the Chief Executive Officer/Postmaster-General.

Last week, Ajuri Ngelale, a Presidential spokesman, announced that President Bola Tinubu had altered the leadership of various communication agencies, including NIPOST.

However, there was immediate confusion as reports emerged that the previously removed Postmaster General, Adeyemi Adepoju, had been reinstated. In a viral video, Adepoju addressed some workers who claimed that Tinubu had reappointed him.

In a statement released by NIPOST on Friday, Adepoju alleged that President Bola Ahmed had reinstated him as the Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST. The statement cited Adepoju's exemplary leadership and outstanding performance during his previous tenure as the basis for his reinstatement.

On Monday, the protesting workers prevented the newly appointed NIPOST CEO from entering the premises, expressing their strong disagreement with her appointment.

My Change Of Name Well Documented, Atiku Opens Up

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s Presidential Candidate at the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar, said he legally changed his name from Siddiq Abubakar.

A statement released in Abuja by his media aide, Paul Ibe, said it is on record that the change of name of the former Vice President reverting to Atiku Abubakar from Siddiq Abubakar is well documented in an affidavit dated 18th of August 1973, spanning over 50 years.

The Atiku Media Office said an attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to drag the former Vice President into forgery must be seen as an effort to minimise allegations of forgeries against President Bola Tinubu.

While asking the President and his handlers to desist from further comparing him and Atiku, the statement said all the names that Atiku Abubakar bears are traceable to his family tree.

Lagos Vows To Demolish More Structures On Drainage Channels

The Lagos State Government recently shut down public places such as markets over environmental hazards and dirty environments, and many Nigerians and groups have been talking about the issue.

The State Government said it arrested about 30 environmental offenders for improper waste disposal and disregarding the state Environmental Laws.

In a statement, the Director of Public Affairs in the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Folashade Kadiri, said the action continues the state’s avowed zero-tolerance policy on dirty environment.

Speaking about this on a monitored programme, the Environment and Water Resources Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, defended the government’s action.

Also, in an interview with Inspiration FM, the Spokesperson of the Nigerian Conservative Foundation, Oladapo Shoneye, commended the state government for the step.
