Tinubu Appoints Mandate Secretary For New FCTA Women Affairs Secretariat

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi as mandate secretary for the newly formed Federal Capital Territory Administration’s (FCTA) Women Affairs Secretariat.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister’s Director of Press, Anthony Ogunleye, via a post on FCTA’s official X handle.

Ogunleye noted that Benjamins-Laniyi will be critical to the FCTA’s mission to improve the well-being and empowerment of women and children in the FCT.

Her appointment comes only days after the President sanctioned the formation of a Women Affairs Secretariat to address women’s issues in the FCT Administration through the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

Benjamins-Laniyi was born in 1965, and she is from Ogun State.

Akpabio Responds To Sen Abbo, Denies Sack Allegations

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has firmly denied any connection to the removal of Senator Elisha Abbo from his position by the Court of Appeal.

Akpabio asserted that, contrary to Abbo's allegations, he had no motive to pursue a vendetta against the ousted senator.

Following his ousting by the Appeal Court, Abbo pointed fingers at Akpabio, claiming responsibility for his removal. Abbo further alleged that four other senators who opposed Akpabio's emergence as Senate President were also targeted for removal, with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu being the next in line.

In response, Akpabio accused Abbo of seeking a scapegoat for his removal. This statement was conveyed by Akpabio's Media Aide, Eseme Eyiboh, who stated, "It is unfortunate if he said that Akpabio was responsible for his removal. That’s the swan song of a man looking for scapegoats. The Court of Appeal across the country decides cases based on the provisions of the Electoral Act and evidence advanced by petitioners. The Senate President has no reason to witch-hunt any of his colleagues."

It's worth noting that Abbo was among the senators who supported Senator Yari during the battle to elect the Senate President.
