Ribadu Accuses Security Personnel of Supplying Arms to Criminals

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has strongly condemned the actions of security personnel involved in stealing and selling arms to criminal groups. Speaking at an arms destruction event organized by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Abuja on Friday, Ribadu labeled such individuals as “worse human beings,” stressing the need to address the issue urgently.

Ribadu expressed deep frustration with police officers and soldiers who divert arms from their formations to criminals, saying, "The worst human being is a policeman or soldier who will take arms from his own formations and sell them to bad people, who then use those weapons to kill their colleagues." He also emphasized that stopping this internal threat is critical to restoring peace and stability in Nigeria.

The NSA went on to curse security personnel involved in the illegal arms trade, revealing that a significant portion of the weapons used by terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements originally belonged to the government. This alarming revelation comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with severe security challenges across various regions.

In the North-East, Boko Haram and jihadist groups have been responsible for over 40,000 deaths in a 15-year insurgency. Central and North-West regions are also plagued by violent "bandits" who raid villages, loot, and kill residents. Ribadu’s comments come amid growing concern that these criminal gangs are increasingly collaborating with jihadists, further destabilizing the country.

I Earn N14m Monthly as a Senator – Orji Kalu

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has revealed that his total monthly earnings as a senator amount to N14 million. Speaking on Thursday, Kalu dismissed the common belief that lawmakers live in luxury while the general population struggles with poverty.

"I earn N14 million for everything in a month. That includes the overhead costs, workers' salaries—everything," the former Abia State governor explained. He added that the amount is insufficient to cover expenses such as fueling his car to visit his constituency and maintaining the constituency office.

Kalu also addressed the controversy surrounding the luxury cars allegedly provided to lawmakers. He clarified that while committees in the National Assembly are given vehicles, individual lawmakers are not provided with official cars. "I am in the Senate, and many things are said about the Senators that are not true. No lawmaker is given a personal vehicle," he said.

Regarding the current economic hardship in Nigeria, Kalu pointed out that the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are still felt globally. He noted that countries with long-established robust economies have recovered more quickly, whereas Nigeria continues to face challenges. Kalu expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to address the country's economic instability.

"The president knows that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is in touch with reality and even drives around at night to observe what is happening in Abuja," Kalu concluded.

Many Weapons Used by Terrorists and Bandits Originated from Government Stockpiles – Nuhu Ribadu

The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, revealed that many of the illegal weapons circulating in Nigeria were originally part of the Federal Government’s arsenal. Ribadu made this statement during an arms destruction exercise held by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja on Thursday.

He explained that these weapons found their way into the hands of non-state actors, including terrorists and bandits, due to corrupt elements within the security agencies. Ribadu strongly condemned those security personnel who facilitate the illegal distribution of arms and assured that the government is committed to taking all necessary measures to restore and maintain national security.

PDP Chieftain Ewoh Accuses Wike of Never Winning Popular Votes, Labels Him a ‘Destroyer’ – Fubara

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Nnam Robinson Ewoh, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of being a "destroyer."

In an interview with Symfoni on Wednesday, the former Rivers lawmaker alleged that Wike has never won any election through popular votes, claiming the ex-governor relies on violence to secure victories.

In a viral video from the interview, Ewoh expressed confidence that, despite the current rift between Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Fubara would secure a second term in 2027.

He stated, "Wike, historically, is a destroyer. He has wrecked the PDP and everyone he has supported. Wike can’t bring anything good or new to this state."

Ewoh further claimed, "For Wike to win elections, they have to write the results for him. He’s never won through popular vote. Wike doesn’t believe in free elections, and he cannot compete in a fair electoral process.

"Whether Wike is involved or not doesn’t matter. What will determine Governor Fubara’s return in 2027 are the votes from River’s people, not Wike’s. Wike has only one vote, and that won’t be enough to affect the governor’s chances."

Ewoh also argued that Wike’s involvement in the PDP has led to the party's decline, adding, "Since Wike began playing a key role in the PDP, the party has been going downhill. He’s never been a success story—only a disaster for the PDP. Fubara will definitely have a second term, and nobody is talking about Wike in this state."

He concluded by advising President Bola Tinubu to be cautious in dealing with Wike, warning that Wike may eventually turn against him as political dynamics shift.
