INEC Denies Allegations Of Bvas’ Manipulation In Kogi Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied reports that it tampered with that accredited figures of voters in the Kogi governorship election results uploaded on the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal.

In a statement, INEC’s national commissioner and member of the information and voter education committee, Mohammed Haruna, said “the most accurate and up-to-date Voters’ Accreditation Data is available in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which is used for the authentication and accreditation of registered voters at various polling units on election day.

He said the BVAS automatically retains the accreditation data of all voters.

A news report on Sunday had alleged that there were discrepancies in the number of accredited voters captured by the BVAS and the figures contained in the uploaded manual electoral result sheets for some polling units in Okene, Adavi and Okehi Areas of the state.

However, the INEC national commissioner said the BVAS is designed to primarily work offline without internet connectivity.

Atiku Urges PDP, LP, Others To Unite Against APC

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called on the opposition parties in Nigeria to come together and form a formidable front to protect the country’s democracy.

Atiku, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 presidential election, said this when he played host to the national executive committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council Nigeria (IPAC), led by its National President, Yabagi Sani.

He lamented that the All Progressives Congress, APC is turning Nigeria’s democracy into a one-party system.

Atiku said if the situation is not challenged in unison, democracy in the country will suffer for it, and the consequences of it will affect the generations yet unborn.

He also accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of conducting poor elections, including discrepancies in voter numbers.

The former Vice President also called for the National Assembly to prioritize constitutional and electoral reforms, in particular electronic voting reforms, to ensure transparent elections and protect our democracy.

A cross section of callers on our breakfast program, The Big Story reacted to the claim by Atiku.

NLC Strike Misplaced – Oshiomhole

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to focus on advancing workers’ rights rather than partisan politics.

Speaking to State House correspondents after a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Oshiomhole acknowledged his enduring affinity for labour unions stemming from his background as a worker and union leader.

He, however, expressed concern that the NLC’s recent strike actions seemed politically motivated rather than driven by a concrete worker-focused agenda.

The former NLC president said the priority of the labour unions should have been centred on state governments not currently paying the national minimum wage of N30,000.
