Sanwo-Olu Orders Demolition Of Markets Built On Drainage

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered the demolition of Jankara and two markets in Lagos Island to curtail flooding and other environmental degradation caused by the markets.

During an inspection tour of the flooded parts of Ojo Giwa, Princess, Oroyiyin, Idumagbo and Pelewura areas in Lagos Island, the governor gave the order.

The governor said the drainage and regeneration tour of the state area said many illegal structures built in the markets had blocked the drainage channels.

The governor was accompanied by the state Commissioners for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho and the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, among other top government officials.

Governor Sanwoolu also visited the Ilubirin area, with ongoing regeneration projects.

Zamfara Governor Lawal Visits Fudus Assures Resuce Of Abducted Student

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has said his government is doing everything possible to rescue the abducted students of Federal University, Gusau (FUGUS).

The Governor gave the assurance in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Suleiman Bala, issued in Gusau, the state capital.

Lawal, who paid a sympathy visit to the University, described the situation as unfortunate and a setback to education and reiterated his commitment to ending the activities of bandits and other criminals in the state.

The Governor also maintained his stand on non-negotiation with bandits, saying they must drop their weapons or face the full wrath of the law.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Mu’azu Abubakar, revealed that 12 students of the institution and nine construction workers are still with the bandits.

He explained that six students were rescued, and nine others escaped from the bandits, leaving the remaining 21 victims in captivity.

Senate To Summon Service Chiefs, IGP, National Security Adviser, Over Rising Insecurity In Nigeria

Worried by the worsening insecurity in the country, the Senate has resolved to summon the Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and the National Security Adviser.

The Upper Chamber took the decision after deliberating a motion on the kidnap of five female students from the Federal University Dunsin-Ma in Katsina State.

Those to be summoned include the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar.

Also to be invited are the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, told his colleagues about the invitation, adding that the Security Chiefs will be intimating them on efforts to curb all forms of insecurity in the country.

Gunmen Abduct Suspended UNICAL’s Faculty Of Law Dean, Professor Cyril Ndifon

Police in Cross River has debunked the alleged abduction of the suspended Professor of Law and Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Professor Cyril Ndifon.

Police Spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, stated in Calabar that NDIFON was not kidnapped but was picked up by government security agents.

NDIFON’s son, David, had earlier told newsmen that gunmen invaded their residence at Akpabuyo in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River and fired gunshots sporadically before taking his father away.

He said the incident happened between 11pm on Wednesday and the early hours of Thursday.

The University had placed NDIFON on suspension over allegations bordering on sexual harassment of students, among others.
