National Judicial Council rejects Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s acting Chief Judge nominee

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has rejected the nomination of Osun State Governor ADEMOLA ADELEKE for the replacement of the state’s Chief Judge.

The NJC rather insisted that ADEPELE OJO, who was purportedly suspended from office by the governor, remained the Chief Judge of the state, a decision the council took as part of its resolutions during its two-day meeting, which ended on Thursday.

Governor ADELEKE had sought the NJC’s permission to swear in the next most senior judge in the state as the Acting Chief Judge of the state after purportedly suspending Mrs. OJO from office in November.

This followed allegations of misconduct, abuse of power, corruption, and disregard for the rule of law levelled against her by the House of Assembly.

But in a statement by its Director of Information, SOJI OYE, the NJC affirmed that Justice OJO is still the recognized Chief Judge of Osun State, and would not work on the resolution of a State House of Assembly.

Former CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi Renew Calls For audit OF NNPC, asks President to cede position of Minister of Petroleum

A Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI has again called for a comprehensive audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in order to reveal the country’s daily oil production, exports, and accrued revenue.

Speaking at The Bank Directors Summit in Abuja, SANUSI, described NNPCL as the most opaque oil company in the world.

SANUSI, who said his insistence on accountability in the oil and gas sector led to his removal from the apex bank, emphasized the need for accountability within the nation’s oil sector.

He was CBN governor from June 2009 to February 2014.

The former Kano emir also stressed that the President should not hold the position of Minister of Petroleum.

The renowned economist also questioned the NNPCL for allegedly failing to remit enough foreign exchange into the government coffers despite the removal of fuel subsidies by the current administration.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole Questions Quality of Inmates’ Food; Says Dogs Get Higher Feeding Allowance

Senator ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE has lamented the quality of feeding for inmates in Nigerian prisons, saying dogs in the correctional centres are better fed.

OSHIOMHOLE, who heads the Senate Committee on Interior, criticized the feeding practices and emphasized the need for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to focus on rehabilitation rather than subjecting inmates to dehumanizing conditions.

During the presentation of the 2023 budget to the joint committee, NCoS Controller General, HALIRU NABABA said the service had requested a review of the daily feeding allowance for inmates from N750 to N3,000.

The former Edo state governor, however, called for a reevaluation of this policy to stress the importance of prioritizing the welfare of incarcerated individuals.
