Envoys Of Plateau Massacre Won’t Escape Justice – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the heinous and brutal attacks in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State, which resulted in the tragic loss of many lives.

President Tinubu directed security agencies to immediately move in, scour every stretch of the zone, and apprehend the culprits.

The President also directed the immediate mobilisation of relief resources for surviving victims of the primitive and cruel attacks, as well as medical treatment for the wounded.

While commiserating with the government and the people of Plateau State, President Tinubu assures Nigerians that these envoys of death, pain, and sorrow will not escape justice.

The President stated this during his speech when state governors paid him Christmas homage in his Lagos residence under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).

NLC, TUC Show Support For Fubara In Port Harcourt

Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) joined forces in a show of solidarity for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Friday.

The march, which also included students, youths, civil society organizations, labour unions, and members of the Hausa community in the state, took place in front of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital. This demonstration occurred shortly after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the political crisis that had engulfed the oil-rich state.

Rivers State was at the epicentre of a power struggle between the former governor, Nyseom Wike, and Fubara. The strained relationship between Wike and Fubara led to a split among lawmakers in the House, with 27 of them defecting from the PDP to the ruling APC. At this party, Wike holds a ministerial position in the central government.

The situation escalated to the point where the governor faced an impeachment notice, witnessed the demolition of the Assembly complex, and experienced a wave of resignations from pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara's cabinet. However, a resolution appears to have been achieved following a meeting between Tunubu and the conflicting parties on Monday.

Senate Confirms Nomination Of 11 Judges For Supreme Court

The Senate has confirmed the nomination of the 11 Justices of the Supreme Court, a sequel to the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC) and President Bola Tinubu’s letter to the lawmakers seeking their confirmation.

The upper chamber confirmed them during plenary after a debate by the lawmakers who advocated for augmentation of the judiciary budget and stated the impropriety of leaving a vacuum in the Supreme Court for an extended period before making the appointments.

The nominees include Justice Haruna Tsammani (North-East), who chaired the 2023 Presidential Election Petition Court, Justice Moore Adumein (South-South), Justice Habeeb Abiru (South-West), Justice Jummai Sankey (North-Central), Justice Stephen Adah (North-Central).

On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters screened all 11 nominees and brought the exercise report before the lawmakers.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Tahir Munguno, and some other Senators spoke on the nomination of the justices.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, later hoped their confirmation would justify their nomination.

With the confirmation of the 11 justices, the Supreme Court now has the complete statutory requirement of 21 justices on its bench.
