No Hiding Place For The Corrupt – Olukoyede

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has said there will be no hiding place for corruption in Nigeria.

He said President Bola Tinubu has the political will to tackle economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption.

Olukoyede stated this when the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

According to a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede said President Tinubu is offering the right atmosphere for anti-graft activities, both for the EFCC and ICPC, and no Nigerian is immune to investigation for any corruption allegation.

He said the engagement with the ICPC was sending the right signals to the country that the anti-corruption agencies were coming together and extending hands of comradeship and fellowship to each other to work together.

He recalled a supplementary Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both agencies.

Tinubu Slashes Nigerian Government Foreign Trips Delegation

President Bola Tinubu has directed a 60% slash in all official domestic and international travel in his office, that of the Vice President and the First Lady.

Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale said it is part of the president's cost-cutting measures.

While briefing State House correspondents at the presidential villa in Abuja, Ngelale said the directive cuts across the entire federal government, including the Office of the Wife of the Vice President and all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The presidential spokesman said ministers are now limited to four people for foreign trips, while heads of agencies can only travel with two people.

He also said President Tinubu approved that he will no longer allow huge security delegations anywhere he travels within this country, which attracts massive bills concerning estacode and duty allowances.

A former minister of education, Ibrahim Shekarau, has reacted to the president’s directive, saying all other arms of government should emulate the move.

I’m Not A Signatory To Firm, Minister Responds To Contract Award Allegations

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, linked to a company believed to have benefited from the award of a contract in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, was at the presidential villa yesterday.

Sources said he was there on a scheduled appointment regarding the automation of international passport issuance, but he still needs to meet with the president.

Some other reports had also speculated that President Bola Tinubu summoned him, but a source in the presidency debunked that.

When he was approached for an interview, the minister said, “It’s all good,” as he exited the Presidential Villa.

His appearance at the villa came barely 24 hours after the suspension of his colleague, Dr. Betta Edu.

Reports were that a company owned by the Minister of Interior, New Planet Projects Limited, was paid N438.1m by Edu for consultancy services.

However, Tunji-Ojo has said that though he founded the company ten years ago, he resigned from its directorship in 2019 when he contested for the House of Representatives.

N37b, N585m Probe: Sadiya, Edu Barred From Travelling

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized the travel documents of suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Betta Edu and her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq.

The anti-graft agency also impounded the international passport of the suspended National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Halima Shehu.

The trio are being interrogated over allegations of financial crime levelled against them.

The passport seizure was part of the conditions for granting them administrative bail.

The travel papers are to be with the commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Edu, Umar-Farouq, and Shehu were grilled by the anti-graft agency over their activities in the ministry, particularly the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries of various programmes in the ministry.

Also, the EFCC quizzed the managing directors of three banks over alleged suspicious payments by top officials of the ministry under Umar-Farouq and Edu.

The banks were accused of refusing to raise “red flags” and gross involvement in suspicious transactions.
