PDP, LP Ask Questions On Tinubu’s France Private Visit

President Bola Tinubu embarks on a private trip to Paris, set to return in early February. The departure of President Bola Tinubu for a private visit to Paris, France, has been confirmed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

The president is expected to be back in the country in the first week of February 2024. This comes on the heels of a bilateral meeting between President Tinubu and the American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, held on Tuesday night at the Presidential Villa Abuja.

This marks President Tinubu's third visit to France since assuming office eight months ago. His most recent international trip was to attend the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai, UAE, last December.

However, the president's private visit has sparked reactions from major opposition parties, including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party. The PDP's Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, expressed concern over the trip's timing, citing the nation's prevailing insecurity and economic challenges.

Meanwhile, Yunusa Tanko, spokesman for the Labour Party in the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council, raised suspicions of a hidden agenda behind the trip, hinting at the possibility of the President being unwell. The demand for an explanation adds a layer of scrutiny to President Tinubu's overseas visit amid pressing national issues.

Tinubu Has No Plan To Move FCT To Lagos — Onanuga

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has re-emphasized that the president has no plans to move the Federal Capital Territory to Lagos.

This statement came following a rumour that surfaced on social media that the president plans to move the FCT to Lagos State after a department under the Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, moved some of its departments to Lagos.

Stating this on his official X handle, Onanuga noted that the rumour started during the 2023 general elections campaign and was trashed.

Onanuga said those peddling rumours are dishonest, ethnic and regional champions trying to draw attention to themselves. According to him, Abuja has come to stay as it is backed by law.

Onanuga said many parastatals are not based in Abuja depending on their mandate, including the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, which is in Lokoja, insisting that administrative decisions should not be politicides.

Also, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, said the adjustments do not affect their operations.

On Wednesday, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State announced the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council. The decision affects all members of the Cabinet who were initially appointed by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

In a statement released by the governor's spokesman, Ebenezer Adeniyan, it was stated that "all members of the Cabinet (who were appointed by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu) are to immediately hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices."

Additionally, Governor Aiyedatiwa relieved all Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs) of their duties. The affected officials have been directed to hand over all government properties in their possession promptly. The governor expressed gratitude to the affected officials for their services and contributions to the development of the state.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, who previously served as Ondo deputy governor, assumed the position of substantive governor on December 27, 2023, following the passing of Governor Akeredolu. Notably, during the former governor's illness, he successfully navigated an impeachment plot orchestrated by some of Akeredolu's allies in the Ondo State House of Assembly.
