Buhari’s Signature Forged To Move $6.2m From CBN – Ex-SGF

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, has testified in the trial of former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, for alleged fraud.

Mustapha appeared before Justice Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, where Emefiele faces a twenty-count fraud charge.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission accused Emefiele of forging the signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari for the diversion of six-point-two million US dollars, supposedly meant for foreign observers during the last elections.

Mustapha, who appeared as the Second Prosecution Witness, said he had no knowledge about such a transaction. He added that the document in contention did not emanate from the office of then-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Court Orders Nigerian Govt To Fix Prices Of Petrol, Other Items

Popular human rights lawyer Femi Falana has questioned what the three tiers of government in Nigeria are doing with the money saved from the removal of petrol subsidies.

Falana said Nigerians are entitled to benefits from the removal of petrol subsidies, as the government has reported increases in monthly revenue that accrue to the Federation Account.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria called for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation to publish allocation details to the federal, state, and local governments.

Femi Falana also asked the federal government to ignore the advice of the International Monetary Fund to remove all subsidies, despite the economic hardship that citizens are facing.

Fubara Approves Immediate Promotion Of LG Workers

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved immediately promoting local government workers with full financial benefits.

The approval was given during a private meeting with the principal officers of the 23 local government areas and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Governor Fubara, in the meeting, also approved the immediate implementation of a N30,000.00 minimum wage for local government workers and the immediate implementation of the N35,000.00 wage award approved by the Federal Government to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidies.

He also gave a nod to including Nulge as a member of the Local Government Pensions Board, as provided for by law, and the implementation of a consolidated salary structure for local government workers retiring at Grade Level 17.

In a swift reaction to the gesture, the Rivers State chapter of Nulge has hailed the governor for the approvals.

Indulge, in a statement by its state president, Clifford Paul, pledged the support of the local government workers to the administration of Governor Fubara.

The welfare of local government employees in Rivers State has been debated for many years, among other benefits and entitlements.

Alleged $6bn Fraud: Agunloye Asks Court To Decline Jurisdiction

Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of a Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja, has declined to hear the preliminary objection by former Minister of Power, Dr Olu Agunloye, challenging the power of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to prosecute him on the alleged 6 billion dollars Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Station fraud.

The judge held that the application needed to be ripe for hearing. He subsequently adjourned the matter till February 26, 2024.

In the preliminary objection, Agunloye seeks an order prohibiting the EFCC from further prosecuting the instant charge against him.

He also said the charges' alleged offences were on his activities as a public officer, where he was alleged to have awarded the contract without budgetary provision, approval, or cash backing.

He further said that another of the charges involved alleged disobedience of the directives of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and forgery of a letter dated May 22, 2003
