UAE Yet To Lift Visa Ban On Nigeria – Presidency

The presidency has said that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is yet to resume visa services for Nigerian travelers.

This is contrary to a report that was credited to presidential media aide, Bayo Onanuga, that the Arab country had lifted the restriction earlier placed on Nigeria.

But Onanuga refuted the claim, saying that the UAE has not resumed visa issuance to Nigerians.

He noted that the document in circulation was not authorized either by the Nigerian government or the UAE.”

In October 2022, the UAE implemented a ban on citizens from approximately 20 African nations, including Nigeria, from entering its borders.

The Emirati authorities issued a notice to trade partners and travel agents, instructing them to reject all applications.

Since the ban, the UAE and Nigeria have been embroiled in a diplomatic dispute concerning flight allocations and travel restrictions.

US Slams Sanctions On Zimbabwe’s President, Other Officials

The United States government has imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, along with other senior officials, for corruption and human rights abuses.

In a statement, it said these illicit activities support and contribute to a global criminal network of bribery, smuggling, and money laundering that impoverish communities in Zimbabwe, southern Africa, and other parts of the world.

This move scraps the old executive sanction order introduced in 2003 and moves 11 individuals and three entities onto the global list – the Global Magnitsky sanctions programme.
