Makinde Gives Companies With Explosives 72-Hour Ultimatum

About two weeks after an explosion rocked the Oyo state capital, Ibadan, state Governor Seyi Makinde signed into law Executive Order 001, 2024, on the state's handling and storage of harmful substances.

While the Federal Government has launched a probe into the incident, Makinde said a preliminary investigation linked the explosion to some explosives illegally stored in the residential area by some miners.

At a brief signing ceremony at the Governor’s Office in Agodi, Ibadan, yesterday, Makinde said the signing of the Executive Order became imperative in light of the January 16 incident.

In a section of the order, the governor gave a 72-hour ultimatum to anyone in the state in possession of any explosives to declare them.

He expressed hope that the new law, which takes effect immediately, would prevent a recurrence of the January 16 explosion in the state.

LASG Announces Traffic Diversion At Marine Bridge For Repair Till May

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has declared a temporary traffic diversion at the Ijora 7up end of the Marine Bridge, set to commence on February 2nd and extend until May 10th, 2024.

This decision, communicated through a statement released by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, aims to facilitate comprehensive maintenance work addressing structural issues and enhancing the overall condition of the Marine Bridge.

Motorists are strongly advised to adhere to alternative routes the state government provides during the repair period to minimize disruptions and ensure smooth traffic flow. Carefully mapped alternative routes have been designated to alleviate the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure.

For those travelling towards Apapa from Marine Bridge, the suggested route involves utilizing the Malu Road via the Mobil Road U-turn to connect to the Marine Bridge Access Ramp (inbound Apapa). Motorists can then proceed to the Point Road U-turn, leading into Marine Bridge (Ijora bound), following the diversion at the closed section.

Another option for motorists is to take the Marine Bridge Road inward to Malu Road, utilize the Mobil Road U-turn, and proceed to Area B/NAGAFF to access the Point Road U-turn into Marine Bridge (Ijora bound). This route enables them to join the counterflow lane on the Apapa bound lane and divert back to the Ijora bound lane after the closed section.

To ensure the smooth implementation of the diversion plan, Commissioner Osiyemi has assured the public that traffic management personnel will be strategically deployed along the affected routes. Their presence is intended to minimize inconveniences and enhance traffic flow throughout the repair period.
