The state commissioner of police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has apologised for the unprofessional conduct of his officers who invaded the ABN television and radio studio in Umuahia and arrested a guest on a live show.
The station’s director, Ifeanyi Okali, said in a statement that police officers entered the studio around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday. And they have apprehended the guest over a petition against him over a family dispute.
In a statement today, the state police public relations officer, Maureen Chinaka, expressed regret over the incident, promising the command will take necessary disciplinary action.
She said preliminary investigations into the incident indicated that the police officers who made the arrest conducted themselves unprofessionally.
She noted that an orderly room trial for the erring officers will commence today, and if found guilty, they will be disciplined accordingly.
Okali added that the Commissioner of Police visited the station, where he conducted an on-the-spot assessment and tendered an apology in person.
