Police Arrest Fake Medical Doctor In Lagos

The Zone 2 Police Command, situated in Onikan, Lagos, apprehended a 37-year-old individual masquerading as a medical doctor, suspected of possessing forged certificates. Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the zone, Olatoye Durosinmi, presented the suspect to journalists in Lagos.

Durosinmi disclosed that the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit operatives nabbed the suspect, who purportedly served as the Managing Director of Skylink Medical Centre in Ikorodu, based on intelligence gathered from the Elepe community regarding the suspect's activities. Acting on this information, a team of detectives led by SP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi took swift action, resulting in the suspect's arrest.

During the operation, the detectives recovered two suspected forged certificates allegedly from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), along with immovable hospital equipment. The hospital premises have been sealed pending further investigation. Durosinmi revealed that the suspect confessed to electronically producing the certificates, admitting to having no legitimate degree from the university or certificate from MDCN and possessing only a West African School Certificate qualification.

Furthermore, the suspect confessed to employing six staff members, two of whom were trained nurses, while the rest lacked proper medical training. The suspect claimed to have conducted three medical procedures, including two Cesarean sections and one appendicitis surgery, during his three years of illicit medical practice. However, investigations revealed that the suspect had been operating the hospital without the necessary qualifications.

Durosinmi encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious activities to the police and assured cooperation with the health ministries of Lagos and Ogun States to eliminate such fraudulent practices within the zone.
