Sanwo-Olu Set To Commission 15 New Ferries At Badore

The stage is set for Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to inaugurate 15 new water buses, enhancing the state's water transportation system.

The new ferry, Omibus, will be commissioned at the Badore Jetty in Ajah. Constructed by Caverton Marine, a subsidiary of Caverton Helicopters, a prominent Indigenous player in Nigeria's aviation sector, each ferry has a capacity of 40 passengers, promising to bolster water travel in the state.

According to Osiyemi, this initiative will alleviate road congestion by reducing travel time to between 20 and 30 minutes. Additionally, it has generated over 1,000 job opportunities, particularly for youths in coastal communities, through programs like waste-to-wealth, and has opened up more economic empowerment avenues for women.

Lagos State operates seven terminals/jetties: Ikorodu-Five Cowries/Marina, Ijede-Badore West, East, Baiyeku-Ajah/Lagbasa, and Mile 2-Marina/Five Cowries. Others include Badore-Five Cowries/Marina, Ilaje Bariga-Five Cowries/Marina, and EbiteOjo-Mile 2-Marina.

CJN Summons Kano Chief Judge, Federal Judge Over Conflicting Orders

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has summoned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the Chief Judge of Kano State High Court due to conflicting interim injunctions concerning the Kano Emirate, which have caused considerable confusion in the state.

Justice S. A. Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano issued an order for the eviction of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II from the Kofar Kudu Palace, reinforcing the authority of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero. “An order of interim injunction restraining the respondents from inviting, arresting, detaining, threatening, intimidating, harassing the applicant, or infringing on his rights is hereby granted,” stated Justice Amobeda. He added, “This order ensures that Emir Aminu Bayero enjoys all rights and privileges accrued to him by virtue of his position.”

Conversely, the Kano State High Court, under Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, issued an injunction to protect Muhammadu Sanusi and other key figures from potential harassment by state authorities. This order prevents any interference with the Emir’s autonomy and the seizure of key symbols of his authority, such as the twin spear, the Royal Hat of Dabo, and the ostrich-feathered shoes. Justice Aliyu emphasized, “An order of interim injunction is granted restraining the respondents from harassing or intimidating the applicants or confiscating any symbols of the Emir’s authority.” She further added, “The respondents are ordered to maintain the status quo pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

These conflicting orders have led to significant confusion regarding the rightful authority and protection of the emirs in Kano. The State High Court’s case is set for further hearing on June 13, while the Federal High Court has adjourned its case to June 4.

Ayiri Emami: We’ll Occupy Ajayi Crowther University If Justice Is Not Served

Nigerian businessman and politician Ayiri Emami has threatened to occupy Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, where 200-level student Alex Timileyi was beaten to death. Emami criticized Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Education Minister Tahir Mamman for their silence and failure to close the school.

In a viral video, Emami, an All Progressives Congress chieftain, demanded justice, emphasizing that he would refrain from taking the law into his own hands for now. He revealed that the deceased was a prince in the Uvwie and Warri kingdoms in Delta State, urging the governor to ensure the matter is not ignored.

Speaking in Warri pidgin, Emami said, “This is a serious issue. Makinde, I hope you and the education minister are listening. This matter must be fully addressed. The boy was a prince in Warri, and this cannot be overlooked. The school should be closed by now. We don't want to take the law into our own hands, but action needs to be swift.”

Emami warned that if justice is not served promptly, his presence would be felt. “The school will know us if this injustice is not addressed. Such a fine boy, and we haven’t heard from Makinde yet. Oyo State Government, act fast!” he declared.

In a previously shared video, Alex was shown being beaten by a group of students for allegedly stealing a mobile phone. He was half-naked, whipped, rolling on the floor, pleading for mercy, and had his head shaved during the ordeal. Reports suggest he was beaten for more than eight hours.

The school authorities have since expelled the students involved and handed them over to the police. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for the prosecution of the perpetrators.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Adebayo, vowed to ensure justice is served and confirmed that the main culprits are now with the police. Reports indicate that Alex was related to the royal family, being the son of Princess Antonia Emiko and a first cousin of the current Olu of Warri Kingdom, Ogiame Atuwatse III.
