Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved an additional two days off per week for public servants on Grade Levels 01-14, while officers on Grade Levels 15-17 will continue to receive one day off weekly.

The State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, announced that this measure is intended to alleviate the burden on workers facing increased commuting challenges due to rising fuel prices. Onasanya explained that the initiative aims to provide significant relief while boosting productivity by ensuring a more motivated and energized workforce.

He praised Governor Abiodun's dedication to workers' welfare and urged all accounting officers in ministries, departments, and agencies to implement the policy immediately. The scheduling of the off days should be managed to maintain efficient service delivery.

Onasanya also noted that this decision expands upon the governor's earlier policy from July 2023, which introduced one day off per week for all grade levels. The current extension to two days for Grade Levels 01-14 is designed to further reduce financial strain and enhance worker productivity.

Prior to the official announcement, concerns had been raised about Oba Aromolaran’s health, with reports suggesting he had been unwell. Fasuyi, in a heartfelt tribute, described the monarch’s passing as the end of an era, writing, "A Monumental History Closes! The Lion Departs The Forest! The Torch Bearer Of Oduduwa Relocates! The Pride Of Yoruba Traditional Intellectualism Exits!"

Fasuyi praised the Owa-Obokun’s 42-year reign, which he referred to as a period of great legacy and royal distinction for Ijesaland. Severe flooding in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria, has resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people and displaced over 400,000 residents, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

"The death toll stands at 30," Ezekiel Manzo, a spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), told AFP. The disaster occurred after an overflowing dam caused widespread destruction, sweeping away thousands of homes in Borno State's capital.

Zubaida Umar, another NEMA official, described the situation as "quite frightening," noting that "the flood has engulfed around 40 percent of the entire city." Many residents have been displaced, with over 414,000 people forced to flee their homes, scattered across various parts of the city. Umar also warned that the number of displaced could rise to one million.

The UN refugee agency in Nigeria noted on X (formerly Twitter) that this is the worst flooding the city has experienced in 30 years.
