Picking, Selling Face Masks From Dumpsites Would Increase Spread of Covid-19-PTF Warns

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has raised alarm over an unhealthy practice of some Nigerians who pick face masks from rubbish dumps and sell them.

The Chairman of the task force, BOSS MUSTAPHA, who raised the alarm at the PTF daily press briefing in Abuja, warned that such a practice would worsen the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

He also said northern state governments, which had been evacuating the Quranic school pupils, popularly known as Almajirai, to their states of origin should suspend it.

The need for government to take a critical review of the Almajiri system took centre stage yesterday at the House of Representatives.

Nigeria records 204 New Cases of Covid-19, Totaling 1,932

The number of infections from Coronavirus in Nigeria has increased to 1,932 as the country recorded 204 new cases yesterday.

According to a tweet by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control last night, of the new infections, 80 are in Kano, 45 are in Lagos, while 12 are in Gombe, 9 in Bauchi and Sokoto states, Borno and Edo recorded 7 each while Rivers and Ogun stated had 6 cases each.

In other states, 4 in Akwa Ibom, same figure in Bayelsa, 3 in Kaduna,
Oyo, Delta and Nasarawa 2 each and the FCT 4.

The number of those discharged now stands at 319 while death toll has climbed to 58.

President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his sincere wishes to the people of Chibok, Borno State, as they hold prayers and thanksgiving services to mark the sixth anniversary of the kidnap of their daughters by Boko Haram terrorists on April 14, 2014.

President Buhari, in a statement issued in Abuja by his media aide, Garba Shehu said that the girls can never be forgotten and regretted that the current COVID-19 pandemic, with restrictions on movement, made it impossible for any government delegation to be with them during the event.

He, however, assured the people of Chibok that he is still mindful of their welfare and their concerns, especially regarding our daughters who are still missing.

The Nigerian football federation (NFF) have released the final squad list for the 2021 Africa cup of nations qualifying match against Sierra Leone later this month.

In the list, CYRIEL DESSERS and KINGSLEY EHIZIBUE are the debutants who were handed call ups by Coach GERNOT ROHR.

For the goal keeping department, ROHR shortlisted; DANIEL AKPEYI, MADUKA OKOYE and OKECHUKWU EZENWA.

The defenders include KENNETH OMERUO, WILLIAM TROOST-EKONG, LEON BALOGUN, KINGSLEY EHIZIBUE, CHIDOZIE AWAZIEM, JAMILU COLLINS, SEMI AJAYI and OLA AINA.

The midfielders include SHEHU ABDULLAHI, JOE ARIBO, OGHENEKARO ETEBO, RAMON AZEEZ and WILFRED NDIDI.

The forward men include AHMED MUSA, ALEX IWOBI, VICTOR OSIMHEN, CYRIEL DESSERS, KELECHI IHEANACHO, SAMUEL KALU, MOSES SIMON and SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE.
