Asuu Denies Any Agreement With Federal Government To End Strike By December 9.

The national leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says the union’s negotiating team did not reach an agreement with the Federal Government to end the eight-month strike on December 9.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. CHRIS NGIGE, told journalists on Tuesday that ASUU had last month agreed to end the strike by December 9.

ASUU President, Professor BIODUN OGUNYEMI, who made the clarification in a statement said the union representatives only told the government’s delegation that they would take the government’s offer to the union branches and report back later.

He added that there was nothing in the government’s offer of November 27 to suggest that the union has agreed to suspend the strike.

Families of slain rice farmers get 600,000 each

Families of the 48 farmers killed at a rice field in the state have been given N600,000 each by the Borno State Government.

The bereaved families were also given bags of food items by a committee assigned by Governor BABAGANA ZULUM to share donations received on their behalf.

The funds came from combined support of N20m by the northern governor’s forum, and N5m by the North East Development Commission.

The Committee chaired by Borno’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, SAINA BUBA, carried out the distribution in Zabarmari.

Arik air attributes the sack of 300 members of staff on corona virus pandemic

The management of Arik Air has relieved 300 members of staff of their appointments.

This was announced in a statement by the airline today.

It blamed the sacking on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic declaring that the pandemic had made them redundant.

The company explained that a redundancy package would be provided for the affected workers with the help of the aviation unions.

48-year-old Journalist arrested for allegedly raping daughter

A Margistrate court in Taraba state has granted bail to a 48-year-old man, Samson Zanuga William.

The suspect, who is a journalist with Sunrise Newspaper Jalingo, Taraba state was arrested on Monday, November 16 by the Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter.

The 16-year old victim, who prefers to be addressed as Whitney said her father started to molest her at the age of 14 and her father would beat her with cabled wires leaving scars on her body and threatened to kill her as well as stop paying her school fees if she told anyone of the assault.

It was also gathered that Whitney attempted suicide after she spoke to her grandmother and aunty about the incident but was told to keep quiet and not bring shame to the family, adding that she was rescued after drinking insecticide and taking to the hospital where she was diagnosed with ovarian cysts but even at that, the assault did not stop.

The Cameroonian mother, Nges Becky Fuam who had her daughter taken away from her by her father when she was 3 years old was finally informed of the assault by an aunt with whom the daughter sought refuge after running away from home.

Nges Becky Fuam noted that although the family of the suspect has pleaded that they drop the case, she wants justice for her daughter and would not keep quiet.

After Preliminary hearing of the case, the presiding Margistrate, Bartholomew, granted the suspect bail of 1,000,000 naira, a surety who is civil servant on grade level 12 and above with 2 passport photographs or a business man with a land certificate occupancy.

She added that the case has been adjourned to December 10, 2020.
