Oseni Rufai, an Arise Television personality, who was charged with using the BRT lane on a Lagos highway and resisting arrest by police, made his court appearance in a mobile court in Lagos on Tuesday.

He was accused of breaking the Lagos State Transport Law of 2018, and the court found him guilty of breaking the law by driving on the BRT lane. He was fined N70,000.

Reliable information indicated that Rufai paid the bill and was given access to his car.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police, revealed this on Tuesday night while providing a status report on the situation on his Twitter account.

In a statement sent via his Twitter account, Gboyega Akosile, the chief press secretary to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, called the television journalist a lawbreaker and said that Rufai had previously confessed to his crime to the police.

Social media users have responded to Rufai's behaviour in various ways.

While some accused the broadcaster of breaching the law, others believed that the prosecution was politically motivated.

Rufai apologized to friends, family, and coworkers for the event on Wednesday's morning program, admitting that he did not know everything.

He said, “As many of you know, I have been in the news for a few days for the wrong reasons. This has resulted in needless distraction for my friends, family, members of the public and for all my colleagues here on Arise News Channel.

“I would, therefore, like to apologize to all parties over what transpired during the incident with the police when I was stopped for driving on a bus lane.

“I cannot and dare not lay claims to know it all”.
