March 15, 2022 LCC To Resume Toll Operations At Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge

LCC To Resume Toll Operations At Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge

The Lekki Concession Company (LCC) has announced the commencement of toll operations at the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge plaza in Lagos.

LCC had suspended operations at the Lekki tollgate after the shooting of protesters during the #EndSARS protest on October 20, 2020.

Some facilities at the toll plaza were also destroyed during the protest.

In February 2021, the state judicial panel had approved the reopening of the tollgate, but the ruling met objections in some quarters.

In a statement, the company said tolling operations will commence on April 1.

The LCC said commuters plying the road will not pay any toll for the first two weeks until 15th April 2022 “as this period would be toll-free to all motorists plying the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge”.

According to Yomi Omomuwasan, LCC’s managing director, the resumption of services at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge Toll Plaza is coming after extensive consultations with key stakeholders including the residents’ associations, traditional rulers and community leaders, professional bodies, as well as the Lagos government.

March 11, 2022 Police Arraign Fani-Kayode’s Estranged Wife For Alleged Cybercrime

Police Arraign Fani-Kayode’s Estranged Wife For Alleged Cybercrime

The police, on Thursday, arraigned Precious Chikwendu, the estranged wife of an ex-Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on five counts bordering on cybercrime.

Chikwendu was arraigned before Justice Obiora Egwuatu at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to her.

Following her not guilty plea, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Victor, prayed the court for a date to commence trial and also prayed the court to remand Chikwendu in the Kuje Correctional Centre.

He said the defendant should be remanded pending the hearing and determination of the matter.

However, counsel for Chikwendu, Alex Ejesieme, SAN, opposed the application and described it as funny.

“I am surprised that counsel is making this funny application,” Ejesieme said.

The senior lawyer told the court that he had filed an application for bail and that the prosecution had been served.

He said the prosecution only served him the counter affidavit on Wednesday and he had replied with a further affidavit and a reply on points of law. He claimed that the late service of the counter affidavit by the prosecution was a ploy to have his client remanded in prison.

Alleged Killer of SuperTV CEO Chidinma Crowned ‘Miss Cell 2022’

Chidinma Ojukwu, the principal suspect in the murder of SuperTV CEO Micheal Ataga, has been crowned Miss Cell 2022.

The suspect, whose trial is ongoing, won the beauty pageant held at Kirikiri correctional facility.

The event was to mark the 2022 International Women’s Day.

However, Chidinma won the most beautiful and creative female inmate.

Mixed feelings have trailed the emergence of Chidinma Ojukwu as Miss Cell 2022.

Nigerians took to social media to air their opinions on the development.

A social media user Olushola Olufemi said: “You see this life is not in any way balanced. I just want to beg you to please try not to bring topic related to gender inequality on this space cos I’m fu**king sure that a guy that is alleged of murder can’t get this type of treatment in a Nigeria correctional.”

@NaijaShallWe: “They really shouldn’t have televised this, as it comes out as insensitive and inconsiderate. Well people might argue correctional facility activities, I’m just wondering if will keep the same energy when an alleged ritualistic is doing Mr mancho.”

Emmy Josh on her part said: “That is why the prison is referred to as a correctional facility so that whatever crime prisoners(alleged or confirmed) committed can be corrected through the different social, educative and religious programs there. Programmes like this give their lives meaning again.”

Another commentator said: “A good development, giving them a sense of belonging.”
