8 Drown In Fresh Bayelsa Boat Accident

Another boat accident has claimed no fewer than eight persons along Oyoma River, near Oporoma, the headquarters of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The latest incident which occured on Wednesday came barely five days after a similar boat accident killed about six persons including a corps member travelling from Otuan and Ayama rivers in the same Southern Ijaw LGA.

It was learnt that in the latest incident, a 75 horse-power engine boat rammed into another due to bad weather and poor visibility this led to 8 Drowning in fresh Bayelsa boat accident.

Daily Trust gathered that the boat was conveying 12 passengers from Korokorosei to Ayama when it rammed into a local boat conveying food stuffs from Yenagoa to Ayama and 8 drown in the Bayelsa boat accident.

It was said to be raining and the tarpaulin used to provide shield for the passengers was blown away and covered the boat driver’s face, making him to lose control and hit the local boat.

Also, the passengers were said to be travelling without using life jackets.

Meet Custodian Of Olumo Rock Deity Who Died At 137

ABEOKUTA—FAMILY members, tourists and residents of Ikija area in Abeokuta, where Olumo Rock is located, have announced the death of the custodian of Olumo Rock deity, Mama Sinatu Sanni.

The mother goddess of the tourist centre, who was also known as  Mama Sinatu Sanni,  died at the age of 137 years.

Through the years, Sanni fed people with peculiar information about the popular Olumo Rock, she was therefore seen as another attraction to tourists.

History has it that the Abeokuta settlers, Egba people,  during the 19th-Century inter-tribal war, would revere the mountain for the natural refuge it created for them and it is widely believed that the rock, which is being worshipped by traditionalists in Abeokuta, is inhabited by spirits.

Additionally, the rock is now a popular destination for travelers traveling to and from Abeokuta.

Since then, the Olumo Rock, which rescued the Egba people from their enemies, has grown in popularity and is now a popular tourist destination in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Her son, Solomon Adio, confirmed her death saying she died of a brief illness at her residence in her Itoko residence in Abeokuta.

“Mama will be 138 years old by August 5. She died after a brief illness. She was the mother of the deity. We are going to miss her a lot. Mama lived her life for the rock, for the deity. She was dedicated to the gods”, he said.

35 kids who were being "used as sex slaves" in a motel in Nkpor, in the state's Idemili local government area, have been freed by the Anambra police command.

The youngsters were saved during a raid at the Gally Gally hotel in Nkpor, close to Onitsha in Anambra state, according to Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the Anambra Police Command, who made the announcement.

He said that the 14 to 17-year-olds were used for prostitution and the production of children, noting that four of the females who were saved are presently pregnant and that three suspects have been detained and are the subject of an ongoing investigation.

Three of the suspects, including the hotel's assistant manager, were detained, according to the police spokesperson, and three pump action rifles, seven ammunition, and 877,500 naira in cash were also found.
