UK Bound Nigerian Killed While Withdrawing Money In Imo State

United Kingdom-bound Nigerian, Wisdom Chukumerem, has been shot dead in Owerri.

The 30-year-old, who hailed from Awo Ommamma in the Oru East Local Government Area of the state, was shot three times in the chest by armed robbers at the World Bank junction roundabout in the state capital.

The father of two was said to be withdrawing money from a Point-of-Sale operator when his killers struck.

His immediate elder brother, Shedrack, after Police released the mortuary tally to him for burial, said his family was traumatised by the killing of his young brother.

The troubled 32-year-old said that the armed robbers who robbed the POS operator killed his brother after accusing him of calling Policemen to storm the scene.

He said that his brother's appeals to the armed robbers that he was not calling Policemen fell on deaf ears as they shot him dead on the spot.

Shedrack said his brother should have been travelling back to the UK by the first week of September before he was shot dead.

Lagos State Government Takes Action: Greater Scholars International School Closed After Four-Year-Old's Defilement Incident

In response to the distressing incident of a four-year-old pupil being defiled, the Lagos State Government has taken decisive action by shutting down Greater Scholars International School, situated in Ajah. The incident involved the school's security guard, who allegedly committed the offence on April 27, 2023, while ostensibly helping the young pupil, named David James, with cleaning.

The accused, a 23-year-old individual named James, has been arraigned for the heinous act and is currently in custody. The legal proceedings unfolded before Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi at Magistrate’s Court 1 in Ogba. James faced a single count of sexual assault in the courtroom.

The victim's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Olusola, had taken their concerns to the public eye on May 25, 2023, appealing to the state government to intervene and close the school. Their plea was conveyed during a protest held at the school's entrance. The demonstration saw a gathering of individuals carrying placards, including friends, family members, and representatives from non-governmental organizations. The protesters demanded justice for the child and the school's immediate closure.

Images circulated online on Wednesday, revealing that the state Ministry of Education had officially sealed the school's premises.

Mr. Olusola, the victim's father, approved this course of action, stating, 'This development signifies that the Lagos State Government is actively engaged and committed to upholding justice. We are gratified that justice will prevail.'

The ongoing legal proceedings related to the case are set to resume on September 4, 2023.
