FG To Resume Abuja-Kaduna Train Services In November After Seven Months’ Disruption

The Federal Government has said that the train services on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line are set to return this month of November.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo said this while giving the scorecard of his Ministry in Abuja.

It would be recalled that in March, bandits attacked a train heading to Kaduna from Abuja with dozens of passengers, killing some of them while many others were abducted. There after the train services were suspended.

However, Sambo said the Ministry has learnt enough lessons from the attack in March which claimed the lives of several passengers leading to the suspension of train service on the Abuja-Kaduna route.

On his part, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed reeled out the achievements of the Buhari administration.

Commuters Stranded As Lagos Drivers Protest Extortion, Harassment By Agberos

Commercial drivers in Lagos began a seven-day strike today under the auspices of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN), causing significant inconvenience for many travelers.

The drivers are observing the boycott over alleged extortion the men of motor parks and garages committee in the state.

The protest left many commuters stranded in parts of the state as commercial buses were not available to board.

Recall that the commercial drivers in the state, under the umbrella of the Joint Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria (JDWAN), had declared a 7-day boycott of transport services in protest against arbitrary levies imposed on members by the State government.

Inspiration FM spoke to some drivers and commuters around Victoria Island who spoke on challenges they faced.

Bayelsa Resident Decries Pitiable Effect Of Flood In State Says Bag Of Rice Sells For 80,000

As flood continues to ravage the length and breadth of Nigeria, one of the states that is badly hit by the ravaging flood with many homes submerged and thousands of people rendered homeless is Bayelsa State.

Among the worst affected areas in the state are: Biseni, Tombia-Ekpetiama, Tombia-Amassoma Road, Akenfa, Akenpai, Igbogene and Swali, all in Yenagoa Local Government Area, as well as Kaiama, Odi, Otuoke, and Ogbia communities.

A resident of the state who spoke to Inspiration FM, Isaac moore Agraka, described the situation as disturbing, saying people are now living in very pathetic and helpless condition.

However, the Federal Government says it has distributed relief items to 21 states affected by floods, noting that over one million persons have been internally displaced, with approximately 2,776 persons injured, while 612 persons have lost their lives due to the devastating effects of the floods across the country.

Zamfara State Government Apologises For Shutting Down NTA, Pride FM, Others

The Zamfara state government has apologized for shutting down the NTA, FRCN’s Pride FM Gusau, and three other private broadcast media organizations.

The other media organizations shut down by the government included Gamji TV, Gamji FM, and Al-umma TV which are privately operated.

The Government, in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, alleged that the affected media violated its Executive Order Number ten and abused journalism practice.

The government, in the Order, banned all forms of political rallies and meetings in the state due to security concerns, and totally shut down Anka, Bukuyum, and Gummi Local government areas’ roads and other affected towns and villages affected by the order.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman of Zamfara State Committee on Prosecution of Banditry and Related Offences, Dr. Abdullahi ShinKAFI, however, handed an apology to the Media while addressing a press conference in Gusau on Monday.

Shinkafi said that the government’s action of shutting down the media houses attracted unprecedented reactions and criticisms from various organisations and agencies.

Broadcast media regulators: National Broadcasting Commission, Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria, Nigeria Union of Journalists and International Press Institute among others condemned the government for its action and called for immediate reversal.

The APC chieftain, however, insisted that Governor Bello Matawalle’s action was guided by the powers vested on him as enshrined in relevant sections of the Constitution of the Federal Republic.

According to him, the government has since withdrawn the order given to the Commissioner of Police to arrest and prosecute personnel seen around the affected media organisations.

Shinkafi said the government has also withdrawn the security forces deployed to the media houses to allow the personnel resume their work.

He urged the media organisations and all journalists to respect the state laws and support the government in its effort to tackle banditry and kidnapping in parts of the state
