Kanayo O. Kanayo Criticizes Reno Omokri’s Appeal To Peter Obi For Mr. Ibu’s Ailing Health

In response to a recent public plea by the popular comic actor John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu, seeking assistance for an undisclosed health issue that could potentially lead to the amputation of his leg, a social media controversy has erupted.

Reno Omokri, a former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, took to his online platform to call upon Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, to contribute to Mr. Ibu's medical bills. Omokri argued that Mr Ibu had endorsed and campaigned for Peter Obi during the 2023 general elections, making it a moral obligation for the LP candidate to assist the actor in his time of need.

In response, Kanayo O. Kanayo, a seasoned actor in the Nollywood industry, expressed his strong disapproval of Omokri's statement in a video shared on his Instagram page. Kanayo condemned Omokri's actions, deeming them unkind. He emphasized that giving is a personal matter and should not be used to pass judgment on others.

Kanayo stated, "As actors, our hearts go out to our dear colleague, Mr. Ibu. His family has done their best since it was reported last year, and now they have come out to say we have done our best, we need public support. Now, I condemn in strict terms Reno Omokri, who is coming to call Peter Obi's name and so on. It is not a friendly thing. It's wicked."

He continued, "It's an individual thing to support a colleague. It becomes a collective thing as the Actors Guild of Nigeria. Don't forget some people learn to give personally privately. Even those who have given can be appreciated based on what they gave to John Okafor. We appreciate your efforts in giving, but nobody should use it as a platform to criticise or indict those who have not given. It's wrong, and we don't support it. So, this is a warning. If you want to give, give."

The debate surrounding public support for Mr. Ibu's medical needs highlights the complexities of personal charity and the importance of handling such matters with empathy and sensitivity.

Corps Member Stabbed To Death In Kaduna

In a heartbreaking incident, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Grace Chalya Silas, fell victim to a fatal stabbing in Kaduna State, presumably at the hands of armed robbers.

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed that the tragic event occurred during the early hours of Thursday.

According to the PPRO, the young woman was engaged in her morning exercise when a group of criminals ambushed her, apparently to rob her of her phone. He recounted, "Some individuals stabbed her while performing her workout along GRA road in Barnawa this morning. Riding a motorcycle, the suspects intercepted her and attempted to snatch her phone. In the struggle to grab the phone, one of the suspects used a sharp knife to inflict a fatal wound."

Upon receiving the distressing news, the police acted swiftly and rushed her to Harmony Hospital, where, regrettably, medical professionals confirmed her passing.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Yusuf Garba, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter, with the assurance that the law enforcement will exert every effort to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act face justice.

Fire Engulfs Watt Market In Calabar, Causing Millions In Damages

In a devastating incident that unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, goods estimated to be worth millions of naira were engulfed by a fierce fire at Watt Market, a prominent marketplace in Calabar, Cross River.

The fire, believed to have ignited around 2 a.m., wreaked havoc on at least six shops within the shopping complex where it originated. Confirming the incident, Olumayowa Olomola, the Commanding Officer of the Calabar Command of the Federal Fire Service, attributed the fire's cause to a power surge within one of the shopping establishments in the market.

While the exact value of the goods consumed by the fire remains uncertain, it is evident that the affected shops were well-stocked. Olomola emphasised that were it not for the timely response of her team, the fire could have extended its reach to more shops.

She further advised, "Our response was prompt, and we succeeded in containing the fire within the six affected shops. I urge everyone to take preventive measures by switching off all electrical appliances to avert incidents of this nature."

No January Exit For Ndidi, Iheanacho

As the transfer window approaches in January, Leicester City's Coach, Enzo Maresca, has quashed any speculations about the potential exit of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho.

With just one year remaining on their current contracts, both players were subject to transfer rumours during the recent summer window.

Wilfred Ndidi was strongly linked with moves to Nottingham Forest and Fenerbahce, while Kelechi Iheanacho reportedly received offers from Crystal Palace, West Ham, and Inter Milan. Nevertheless, Maresca deems Ndidi indispensable and a vital part of his squad, especially as he endeavours to guide the 2016 English Premier League champions back to the top flight following their relegation last season.

When questioned about the future of Ndidi and Iheanacho, Maresca responded, "These players' futures will be resolved in no time. They are key players, and we will see what happens in January, but I don't see them leaving except for international duty."

Despite Ndidi's role shift to the No.8 position at the club, his recent outstanding form has solidified his place in Maresca's plans, making their departure from the team highly unlikely.
