I Am Not Going Away, Atiku Says After Supreme Court Verdict On Tinubu

The Candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25, 2023, presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, has said he will not abandon partisan politics in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict that dismissed his petition and affirmed the victory of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at a Press briefing in Abuja, the former Vice President promised to continue the struggle with other Nigerians to deepen Nigeria’s democracy.

Atiku stated that though the apex court’s judgment is final, it leaves much to be desired.

Speaking further, he proposed an amendment to the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022 to accommodate a six-year single term for a president for each of the six geopolitical zones.

He added that the law must mandate electronic voting and collation of results and compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to verify credentials submitted by candidates vying for political offices, amongst others.

DNA On My Son Is A Must – Mohbad’s Wife Wunmi, Finally Breaks Silence

Wunmi, the widow of the late Nigerian rapper Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, has expressed her willingness to undergo a DNA test for their son, Liam.

In the wake of Mohbad's controversial death, there has been a growing demand from Nigerians for a DNA test to establish the true paternity of Liam. The late rapper's father, Mr James Aloba, has been insistent on the necessity of a DNA test and has requested that it be conducted in his presence or through his representative.

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo recently revealed in a post on her Instagram page that Mohbad's wife is also open to the idea of a DNA test for her son.

She shared a screenshot of a message from the late singer's wife, which stated, "Hello, ma. I've decided not to speak on anything until the 7th of November, which is the coroner's inquest because I do not want any side distraction. All I want is justice for my husband, which I believe the Nigerian government is working on. After everything, I'll either grant an interview or share my story with the world and also, DNA testing is definitely a must!!!"

Ojo added in her caption, "For those who are eager to hear from Mohbad's wife, this is her response... Ikeja General Hospital, please ensure that by the 7th of November 2023, the date of the coroner's inquest, the full autopsy results will be available. We are unwavering in our pursuit of justice for Mohbad, regardless of any controversies, noise, or distractions."

Australia Leaves 2034 World Cup Bid For Saudi

Australia has decided not to pursue a bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup, solidifying Saudi Arabia's position as the frontrunner to host the prestigious event.

Football Australia withdrew its bid on the October 31 deadline following the Asian Football Confederation's endorsement of Saudi Arabia.

Football Australia explained their decision in a statement, saying, "We have thoroughly considered the opportunity to host the FIFA World Cup and, after weighing all relevant factors, we have chosen not to pursue the 2034 competition."

FIFA, the global governing body of football, had opened the bidding process for the rotating World Cup hosting rights in Asia and Oceania. This move came after announcing that Morocco, Spain, and Portugal would be joint hosts for the 2030 edition. It's worth noting that Australia and New Zealand successfully co-hosted the Women's World Cup this year, receiving positive reviews for their efforts.

Saudi Arabia's aspiration to host the 2034 Men's World Cup represents the latest milestone in its campaign to establish the kingdom as a prominent force in global sports.

Naira Marley And Sam Larry Sue Magistrate Police Demand N40m

Controversial artist Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, and Lagos socialite Samson Eletu, also recognized as Sam Larry, have initiated a fundamental rights lawsuit challenging their prolonged incarceration in connection with the tragic demise of the 27-year-old singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad.

In the case filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, they have named the police and Lagos Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun, who had sanctioned their detention in police custody for 21 days, as defendants. Naira Marley and Sam Larry seek N20 million each in damages from the defendants.

Their legal representation, Mr Olalekan Ojo (SAN), filed the suit, arguing that their detention since October 4, 2023, at the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command in Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, violated their rights. They are urging the court to issue an order for their immediate release.

In their affidavits accompanying the lawsuits, deponents reveal that their legal predicament began between October 3 and 4, 2023, when they were apprehended by the police on allegations connecting them to the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad. On October 4, 2023, the Commissioner of Police sought an order in the Magistrates' Court in Yaba to detain them for 30 days.

Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun granted the police's application for a 21-day remand. The 21-day remand order granted by Chief Magistrate Olatunbosun expired on October 26, 2023, and has not been renewed since.
