GAYA: INEC Can Transmit Anambra Election Results Electronically

The Chairman, Senate Committee on INEC, Kabiru Gaya, has said that the electoral body is at liberty to transmit the Anambra State governorship election results electronically if it so desires.

Gaya spoke while briefing reporters after the National Assembly Joint Committee on Electoral Matters and INEC met with stakeholders on the November 6, 2021 governorship election.

He said it is left for INEC to decide whether it will transfer the election results in Anambra electronically or not.

Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the agency had recovered from the series of attacks by yet-to-be identified persons in Anambra State.

NCDC Announces 166 New Covid-19 Cases  

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says 166 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported across the country.

The agency, in its update for October 28, said the cases were reported in 15 states including the federal capital territory.

Delta state recorded the highest COVID cases with 36 infections, followed by FCT with 22 cases, Rivers (21), Lagos (20), Anambra (18), Ondo (17), Oyo (8), Kebbi (6), Enugu (5), Plateau (5), Ebonyi (3), Kano (2), while Bayelsa, Ekiti and Jigawa recorded one case each.

Gunmen Abduct 8 Persons In Ekiti State, Demand N50 Million Ransom

Barely a week after four persons were kidnapped at Ayebode, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, eight persons have been kidnapped at Itapaji Ekiti in the same council area.

The kidnappers, it was learnt, contacted the family, demanding for the sum of N50 million as ransom.

An eyewitness told reporters that the gunmen stormed a house located in the town around 9.30pm, shot sporadically into the air and took away eight occupants of the building.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti Command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the sad incident, said a special police operative as well as the JTF squads have been deployed to the area to ensure they rescue the victims and apprehend the culprits.

Bandits Kill 7 Persons In Zamfara Community

Armed men, suspected to be bandits, have invaded Yanbuki village in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State and allegedly killed seven persons.

While confirming the attack to reporters, a source who pleaded anonymity, said as soon as the bandits stormed the village, they opened fire on anyone on sight and considering their large number, residents run away.

It was gathered from the source that the bandits rustled about 500 cows, 1,000 sheep and goats, and carted away many valuable goods.
