EFCC Interrogates Obi Cubana For Money Laundering, Tax Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has quizzed   Nigerian billionaire, Obinna Iyiegbu a.k.a. Obi Cubana.

The famous socialite and entrepreneur is being probed for alleged money laundering and tax fraud.

Obi Cubana got to the EFCC headquarters in Jabi Abuja around noon on Monday.

In July, Obi Cubana dominated social media after the burial of his mother in AforUzo, Oba town in Anambra State.

Ex-leader of the Inspector-General’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari, was at the high-octane party. Kyari later described the club owner as a “good friend”.

Senate Slams Federal Government Over Ajaokuta Steel

The Senate Committee on Solid Minerals Mine, Steel Development and Metallurgy has frowned at the abandonment of the Ajaokuta Iron and Steel project. by the federal government.

The committee said the President Buhari led administration talked much about economic diversification, but allocated lean fund to the solid mineral sector annually. 

The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uche Ogah, had told the committee during budget defence that out of the ministry’s N23.4bn budgetary allocation in 2022, N10bn is for personnel cost; N1.47bn for overhead cost and N11bn for capital projects. 

Angered by the submission, members of the committee decried the meagre budgetary allocation to the sector, which they said, should rank second after the oil and gas.

10 Feared Dead In Lagos Building Collapse As Designer Warned Of Looming Tragedy

No fewer than 10 persons are feared dead after a 21-storey building collapsed on Monday on Gerard Road in the eye-brow Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

As at the time of this report, many people are still trapped in the rubble.

According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), one body was also recovered from the rubbles.

The rescue was before the arrival of emergency responders of NEMA, LASEMA, and officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

The deputy governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, visited the scene.

Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu said the important thing is to rescue as many people as possible.

The company that designed the structure and supervised the construction, Prowess Engineering Limited, said it withdrew from the project in 2020 because it no longer shared the same vision with the owners, Fourscore Heights Limited.

The Managing Director of the company, Muritala Olawale, in a letter to Osibona on February 20, 2020, said his firm could not guarantee the integrity of the building from anything above the fifteen floor approved by government.

The owner of the collapsed building has been arrested by government.

Nigeria Records 90 Covid-19 Cases As 217 Patients Recover

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)has said the country has recorded  90 COVID-19 new cases across seven states and the federal capital territory (FCT).
 
The states that recorded new infections are Lagos (33), FCT (15), Nasarawa (14), Cross River (11), Rivers (11), and Kano (3), Bayelsa (2), Kaduna (1).
The infectious disease body said the report includes 22 and 11 cases reported from Lagos on October 31 and November 1 respectively.

According to the NCDC, , 217 persons were discharged after recovering from the virus.

The NCDC said two persons died from the virus on Monday, increasing the total number of fatalities to 2,898.

Nigeria presently has 212,051 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 203, 338 recoveries.
