Troops Kill 31 Terrorists; Arrest 71 In Two Weeks In The North East Zone

The Nigerian Army Defence Headquarters has said troops of "Operation Hadin Kai" have eliminated 31 terrorists, arrested 71 and received 1,186 surrendered insurgents in two weeks in the North East zone.

The acting director of Defence Media Operations, Brig-Gen. BERNARD ONYEUKO, said this in Abuja when he briefed reporters on the operations of armed forces between October 29 and November 11, 2021.

ONYEUKO said two of the arrested terrorists were women logistics suppliers namely, Mrs AISHA UMAR with a two-year-old child and Mrs KALTUMI BAKURA who were residents at IDPs Camp in Bama, Borno State

He also said that a total of 97 kidnapped civilians were rescued while 122 assorted weapons were recovered during the period.

According to ONYEUKO, the repented Boko Haram elements included their families, 226 adult males, 406 adult females and 555 children who surrendered to troops at different locations in Borno.

EFCC Detains Former Edo State Governor, Igbinedion, Over N1.6bn Fraud

A former governor of Edo State, LUCKY IGBINEDION has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Report say that Igbinedion who finished his tenure as governor in 2007 is being grilled at the Abuja headquarters of the EFCC for allegedly diverting public funds to the tune of N1.6 billion.

A loan obtained by the Edo State government is said to have been diverted to a company which he has an interest in.

Mr. IGBINEDION was prosecuted in 2008 by the EFCC and convicted of embezzling N2.9 billion belonging to Edo State.

He was sentenced to six months' imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a one count charge which was pruned from 191 charges.

EFCC Detains Igbinedion for Fraud.

The latest invitation was confirmed by the spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren who failed to give more details.

Nigeria Records COvid-19  Infections

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Records COvid-19  Infections and stated that 53 COVID infections have been reported in eight states and the federal capital territory (FCT).

Nigeria Records COvid-19  Infections and the states that reported the fresh cases are Lagos (19), FCT (7), Plateau (7), Rivers (7), Imo (5), Kano (4), Zamfara (2), Bayelsa (1) and Gombe (1).

The agency said Thursday's report  includes nine and 10 cases from Lagos reported on November 10 and 11.

It also includes five cases from Imo recorded on November 10; one and three infections reported in Kano on November 10th and 11; 16 discharges reported in Kano on November 10.

The NCDC said 325 patients recovered from the infection.

Eleven people reportedly died of COVID complications, including a backlog of 10 fatalities from Edo.

So far, Nigeria has recorded 212,947 COVID cases, 205,000 recoveries and 2,933 deaths.

The centre added that Abia State and Lagos State reported a backlog of 26 and one discharged cases respectively for October 30, increasing the number of discharged cases to 203,121.
