Court Summons Nigeria's Chief Of Army Staff Over Killing Of Imo Businessman

A Federal High court in Owerri, the Imo State capital, has ordered that substituted service of court summon be served on the Chief of Army Staff, Faruk Yahaya, over the killing of an Owerri-based businessman, Noel Chigbu by suspected soldiers on April 30.

Counsel to the applicant, G. O Anyalewechi informed the court that the army chief refused to be served when a court bailiff traveled from Owerri to Abuja to meet him.

The presiding judge, Justice Maureen Onyetenu, ordered that the COAS be served through a newspaper publication in The Punch newspaper.

The applicant's counsel further disclosed that the other respondents: The Chief of Defence Staff, the Governor of Imo State and the Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Owerri, had been duly served.

Cameroonian ‘Soldiers’ Attack Taraba Community

No fewer than eleven persons including a traditional ruler have been killed in Taraba State by suspected soldiers from Cameroon.

The incident took place at Manga village of Takum Local Government Council of the state in the early hours of Wednesday.

The attack came barely a month after soldiers from the country attacked some villages in Kurmi Local Government Council of the state.

The deputy minority leader of the Senate, Emmanuel Bwacha, who represents Taraba South senatorial district, brought the incident to the Red Chamber’s notice during plenary on Wednesday.

Another Building Collapses In Lagos

A storey building has collapsed at Flour Mills Estate in the Badagry area of Lagos state.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service says the building, which was under construction, caved in on Wednesday.

The incident happened barely two weeks after the Ikoyi building collapse, which killed about 46 persons.

According to the acting coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), south-west, Ibrahim Farinloye, the incident happened at about 1 p.m.

He confirmed that four workers died in the incident, while five persons were rescued with various degree of injuries.

Mr. Farinloye said while the four persons that died were taken to the Badagry General Hospital for treatment, the injured workers were treated at Catholics hospital, Magbon.

The NEMA official said rescue operations have been concluded at the scene of the incident.

The Nigerian Navy says Cute Abiola is not missing as earlier reported.

The Nigerian Navy has released a statement concerning the whereabouts of popular Instagram comedian, Cute Abiola.

In a statement released by the military organisation on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, it stated that the comedian who is also its personnel was detained for disobeying its orders.

"OSCOMP Abdulgafar is currently under custody of his unit for breaching the Armed Forces Social Media Policy and refusal to obey particular orders," part of the statement read.

The Nigerian Navy debunked the reports that the military officer was missing.

It also advised all its personnel to obey the policies guiding the military organisation.

The statement hours after it was reported that the popular skit maker was missing.
