Arsenal Edge Closer To WCL Glory

Arsenal edge closer towards reaching the knockout stages of the Women's Champions League after cruising to a thumping 3-0 win over HB Koge at Meadow Park on Wednesday night.

Australia international Caitlin Foord's first-half finish was added to late on in the game by Lotte Wubben-Moy's incisive header from Beth Mead's cross, before substitute Vivianne Miedema capped a comfortable evening for the londoners with a composed finish for to claim Arsenal's third and seal the win for the home side.

The result means Arsenal remain just three points behind Barcelona Femeni in Group C after they totally decimated Hoffenheim 5-0 in Germany, with Jonas Eidevall's side next hosting the Catalans at the Emirates on December 9, in what promises to be a spectle.

Arsenal are on the brink of securing a quarter-finals berth, with six points separating them and Hoffenheim in third place with two games left.

Jonas Eidevall is well aware is work is all but done, as he turns his attention to a massive game in the WSL against Manchester United this weekend. He heads into the fixtures in high spirits and can reflect on a job well done where his superior tactical prowess ensured Koge's obstinate resistance was comfortably breached on three occasions.

The Gunners previously recorded a 5-1 win in Denmark last week but Koge goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese ensured the margin of victory was not greater, as she did so on this occasion.

SAFA Claim Betting Spike During World Cup Qualifier

South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan alleges clear pattern of match manipulation during South Africa's 2022 World Cup qualifier against Ghana.

Ghana defeated Bafana Bafana 1-0 on Sunday in the crucial qualifier - a result which saw the Black Stars advance to the next stage of Africa's qualifiers for the tournament at the expense of the South Africans on goals scored.

Ghana's winning goal came from a first-half penalty, when Daniel Amartey went down following what appeared minimal contact from defender Rushine de Reuck.

SAFA lodged a complaint with FIFA after the game, in a letter dated 17 November, said the protest will be submitted to a member of its disciplinary committee on 23 November for consideration.

South Africa's protest included allegations of "match fixing, match manipulation including corruption and bribery", which JORDAAN claimed may be linked to gambling at a press conference on Wednesday.

The Fifa disciplinary code allows protests based on "an obvious error" by a referee.

There has been no official comment from anyone on the officiating team for the match, who are all Senegalese and were headed up by referee Maguette Ndiaye as it is understood that, according to FIFA rules, Ndiaye is not permitted to comment on officiating decisions.

The Ghana Football Association, which responded by dismissing any match-fixing allegation, has been asked for its observations on the matter.

Rangers Close In On Appointing Van Bronckhorst As Gerard Replacement

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is closing in on an agreement of a deal in principle to become the new Rangers manager.

The former Rangers full-back is on the verge of sealing a return to Ibrox to succeed Steven Gerrard, who left to return to the Premier League to manage Aston Villa.

Rangers are understood to be very pleased with developments after a thorough process led by sporting director Ross Wilson, with a host of strong candidates on their shortlist.

Reports indicate Van Bronckhorst was allegedly spotted in London on Saturday, where he held positive talks with the Rangers hierarchy, before flying back to the Netherlands that evening.

David McCallum, Brian Gilmour, Jermain Defoe and Colin Stewart are currently in charge of the first team and could lead the side out in Sunday's League Cup semi-final against Hibernian, before the Dutchman takes to the dugout.

Following that tie Rangers will play hosts to Sparta Prague in the Europa League at Ibrox before key away matches in the league at Livingston and Hibernian.

The Scottish Premiership champions' key goal was to make the right appointment for the future of the club, with Champions League qualification all but guaranteed if they retain their title this season.

Rangers currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership after 13 matches, four points ahead of rivals Celtic in second.
