PDP Chairman Says Fuel Price Hike Will Cause More Hardship For Nigerians

The National Chairman-elect of the People's Democratic Party, Iyorchia Ayu, has said the planned increase in the price of premium motor spirit, popularly known as petrol, will pile more hardship on Nigerians as well as increase prices of foodstuff and crimes rate in the country.

Ayu said this in Abuja while responding to questions from reporters after releasing the communique issued at the end of the PDP's 2021 two-day national retreat.

He said Nigerians had already been pressed ahead of the planned increase of petroleum pump price because of too much hardship.

He stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) government was trying to "take us into the highest level of suffering and ultimately, taking Nigerians to a position of non-existence".

Ayu said: "The PDP does not believe in visiting more hardship on the Nigerian people. The party has not discussed the issue of increase in petroleum prices but our general position is that the people of Nigeria are already hard pressed, there is so much hardship.

"If you're poor, you're not going to benefit from what is called petroleum subsidy."

Napoli Confirm Victor Osimhen’s Had A Successful Surgery After Injury Blow

Super Eagles and Napoli Victor Osimhen striker, has been discharged from the Ruesch Clinic in Milan, where he underwent a successful facial reconstruction surgery following several fractures to the cheekbone and orbital bone.

The 22-year-old forward has been ruled out for a lengthy 3-month period which spans the duration of the African Nations Cup in Cameroon, and has inadvertently been ruled out from participation in the tournament.

Osimhen suffered many fractures in an aerial collision with Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar in a Serie A match on Sunday, where Napoli suffered their first loss of the current Seria A campaign.

The method for the reconstruction, which required six plaques and up to 18 screws, has been outlined by operating surgeon Gianpaolo Tartaro.

The initial rehabilitation is expected to last at least 90 days, excluding Osimhen from the 2022 Nations Cup, which begins on January 9.

Victor Osimhen was released from the Ruesch Clinic this morning and returned home, according to a statement on Napoli's website.

Osimhen had scored 13 goals in 20 appearances for club and country before his injury.
