German Authorities Slam Bellingham With N18.5m Fine Over Match-Fixing Comments

Jude Bellingham has escaped a ban but will pay €40,000 in fines to the German authorities for his match-fixing comments about Referee Felix Zwayer

German football authorities have fined Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham to the tune of €40,000 [N18.5m] for his match-fixing comments against Referee Felix Zwayer. The German authorities have also written to the young midfielder, asking him to 'comment on his statements as soon as possible.'

After Saturday's 'Der Klassiker' fixture between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, the English youngster referred to Zwayer's involvement in a match-fixing scandal in 2005.

Bellingham suggested that the referee should not be in charge of the biggest match in German football after a penalty was awarded against Mats Hummels for handling the ball in the area.

Following a criminal investigation into the matter, the German authorities have now fined the player but spared him a ban. The authorities put out an official statement that read thus:

"The sports court of the German Football Federation has not blocked Borussia Dortmund's young professional Jude Bellingham (18) for his TV statement about referee Felix Zwayer after the Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich last Saturday.

"Bellingham had reminded out of Zwayer's misconduct immediately after the whistle in the historical context, which had been punished by the DFB several years ago."

"The sports court considered Bellingham's statement to be "unsportsmanlike behaviour" and sentenced the English national player to a fine. Borussia Dortmund and the player accepted the verdict, Jude Bellingham is thus entitled to play in the Bundesliga match next Saturday at VfL Bochum," the statement explained.

The Incorporated Trustees of Egalitarian Mission for Africa, the plaintiff, had filed the suit in 2019 and challenged Abubakar’s eligibility to contest for president.

The group joined the People’s Democratic Party, the Independent National Electoral Commission and Abubakar Malami, the attorney-general of the federation as co-defendants in the suit.

Ferdinand Reveals Two Players Who Are Doomed Under Rangnick

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw might face spells on the bench due to their limited ability on the ball.

Rio Ferdinand has identified Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw as two players who would struggle to get back into the United line-up under interim manager Ralf Rangnick. The former Manchester United defender believes that the English duo's limited ability on the ball will count against them under the German manager.

Wan-Bissaka was on the bench against Crystal Palace on Sunday, having just returned from an injury layoff while Shaw was sidelined due to a head injury. Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles replaced the duo in the United line-up and performed admirably in the win over Palace.

Ferdinand said on FIVE YouTube channel: "I’ve got to be honest, Wan-Bissaka has got a hell of a job getting back in this team. The same for Luke Shaw. They’ve both got one hell of a job. One thing this manager likes is full-backs who can actually play and get on the ball.

Ferdinand explained that being good in the defensive phase is not good enough for a defender under Rangnick, as the 63-year-old manager prefers full-backs who can give a steady output on the ball also.

Rangnick got up to a good start in his United career, nicking a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace courtesy of a Fred winner. The Red Devils are next in action on Wednesday 8th December against Swiss side Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League, having already qualified for the Round of 16.

Bauchi State High Court has issued an interim order restraining the Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress from inaugurating the recently elected Babayo Aliyu Misau-led executive members in the state.

The court further ordered Misau and others elected as party executive members recently in the state to stop “parading themselves in whatsoever manners or means and or acting in whatever capacities or names called as Bauchi State executive officers of APC pending the hearing of the substantive suit filed”.
