Atletico Madrid Reach UCL Last 16 After Thrilling Win Over Porto

Atletico Madrid reached the last 16 of the Champions League after beating Porto in an extraordinary match that saw three players shown red cards.

Antoine Griezmann scored one goal in Portugal and had a key role in the two others as the Spanish side finished second in Group B behind Liverpool.

Atletico led 1-0 through Griezmann when Yannick Carrasco was sent off, before Porto's Wendell saw red.

Porto's Agustin Marchesin, who was not on the pitch, was also shown a red.

Substitute Angel Correa made it 2-0 to Atletico in the 90th minute, while Rodrigo de Paul added a third goal 60 seconds later.

Porto then earned a consolation penalty which Sergio Oliveira converted with the final kick of the game.

Diego Simeone's Atletico began the game bottom of the group but ended it second on seven points, Porto coming third with five and qualifying for the Europa League.

Celestial Church Members Kidnapped During Vigil Rescued In Ogun

Three Celestial Church of Christ members, who were kidnapped during a night service in Obada-Oko area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, have been rescued.

They were rescued unhurt by the Ogun State Government-owned security outfit, the So-Safe Corps.

Church goers were not spared as the kidnappers storm worship centres to drag away worshippers at vigils, the same reason police warned against night services.

However, it appears Mr Ezekiel Agbaje and two other women had ignored police warnings as they were abducted at about 1 am on Friday while in a vigil at the Celestial Church of Christ, Owo Agbara Majemu Parish, Iwokun, near the 'railway bridge' in Obada-Oko.

According to So-Safe Corps spokesman, Moruf Yusuf, the Commander of the agency, Soji Ganzallo, had, upon useful information, instructed the Corps Special Squads to go after the abductors and rescue the victims unhurt.

Lagos Announces Fourth COVID-19 Wave

The Lagos State Government has raised alarm over the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state with its positivity rate at six per cent.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who stated this in a statement, said the state had started to experience the beginning of a fourth wave of the pandemic.

The current positivity rate, according to the Governor, is against the positivity rate of 0.1 per cent recorded as of mid-November and analyses revealed that the fourth wave is a result of non-adherence to the laid down protocols.

As a way to tackle the rising cases, the governor appealed to residents to go to the various approved centres for the vaccine jabs to protect themselves from the virus.

He also asked them to support the government in its effort to manage the fourth wave of the pandemic, especially during the festive season.

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted the review of Nigeria's travel protocol by the Presidential Steering Committee, saying the state government would ensure total enforcement.

He stressed the need for inbound passengers to take the post-arrival Day 2 test within 48 hours of arrival into the country, as well as an additional Day 7 PCR test for all partially or unvaccinated returning travellers.

Man City End Group Stage With RB Leipzig Defeat

Manchester City ended their Champions League group campaign with defeat by RB Leipzig in a match played without fans because of Covid-19 restrictions.

Pep Guardiola opted to field a strong side, which included a first club start since 6 November for Kevin de Bruyne, despite last season's runners-up having sealed top spot in Group A with one game to spare.

But the Premier League leaders finished the six-match group stage without a clean sheet after Hungary midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and Portugal forward Andre Silva scored for Leipzig, who parted company with their manager over the weekend.

City also finished with 10 men after Kyle Walker was shown a straight red card in the last 10 minutes for an unnecessary foul on Silva.

Szoboszlai had rounded keeper Zack Steffen to open the scoring before Silva, who had earlier been denied by City's second-choice keeper, doubled the lead with a neat finish.

The visitors, who put six past Leipzig at Etihad Stadium in September, suffered a frustrating night at an empty Red Bull Arena with Phil Foden having a shot tipped on to the post before Riyad Mahrez reduced the deficit with a diving header.
