President Buhari Says Nigeria Will  Strengthen Security, Defence Ties With Turkey

President Muhammadu Buhari, has  said Nigeria will collaborate with the Republic of Turkey in dealing with the current security challenges facing the nation.

This comes as Buhari acknowledged that Turkey had garnered a lot of experience dealing with security challenges of various kinds and Nigeria will latch onto that experience.

The Nigerian President said this at a bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, shortly before the official commencement of the 3rd Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.

Buhari Directs Finance Ministry To Release Withheld Salaries Of Resident Doctors

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has approved the payment of health workers whose salaries were withheld when they embarked on strike.

Minister of labour and employment, CHRIS NGIGE, disclosed this while speaking to journalists after a meeting with the president at the state house in Abuja.

The development comes months after BUHARI promised that the salary arrears of health workers would be cleared, following strike actions embarked upon by health workers.

He said that the wages, which were seized on the premise of the no-work, no pay-rule following strikes embarked upon by the Joint Health Workers Union, have been approved by the President to be released to the health workers on compassionate grounds.

Responding to the grievances by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the minister asserted that since July 2021, a total of N52.1 billion revitalization fund has so far been released to workers in the university system in consonance with an MOA signed in December 2020 and expects that members of ASUU would have been adequately informed about the Federal Government's efforts.

Governor Ishaku Raises Alarm Over Plot To Set Up Boko Haram, ISWAP Camps In Taraba State

Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, has raised an alarm over plots by Boko Haram and Islamic State's West Africa Province (ISWAP) to set up terrorist camps in the state.

He threatened to depose any traditional ruler caught assisting or keeping criminals and told them not to allow non-indigenes with negative mindsets to settle in their domains.

Governor Ishaku stated this while signing the N149 billion 2022 budget of the state into law at the Executive Chamber of the Government House in Jalingo.

"My delay of coming to sign the 2022 budget and address you is because of security challenges," he said. "Boko Haram and ISWAP are trying to set up camps in this state and that is why we had an emergency meeting for over an hour before my coming.

"It is very sad that the traditional rulers are bent on encouraging this insecurity. Let me warn that I will not, and I repeat, I will not tolerate it and will not waste time to remove any traditional ruler that misbehaves.

"I am kind and soft, but can sometimes be decisive, being quiet and gentle does not make me a mere footstalk to be rubbished."

"I must add with emphasis that security is of great concern to all of us; being the quietest state in the North East has its implications.

"I want to also talk to the traditional rulers, while we have warned them severally not to allow non-indigenes to settle in the state, their persistent refusal to abide by this warning is giving a lot of cause for concern to me," Governor Ishaku added.
