January 11, 2022 7 Tips To Work Smarter Not Harder

7 Tips To Work Smarter Not Harder

Working smarter, not harder, entails working on a whole lot of factors like, improved time management, understanding what has to be done when, and leveraging tools to keep you on target.

Working smarter also boosts your productivity and performance while improving your job happiness and satisfaction. It can also help you become a valued asset where you work, therefore enhancing your job security. Although working smarter involves some experience and growth to put the methods in place, still,  it is not a herculean task.

Here are 7 ideas in to help you work SMARTER, not HARDER.

1. Make your to-do-list concise

Keep your to-do list concise and focused on the first three most significant tasks for the day. Tasks that will make you feel incredibly productive once accomplished. Concentrate on these tasks, one at a time, before moving on to less critical ones. Also when you realize a task is getting too difficult, leave it and move on to the next task then come back to it later. A refreshed mind might just be what you need to detect that error.

2.Respond to people or things quickly

Make it a practice to respond to people or things as soon as possible. For example, if you receive an email that demands a response, reply quickly to remove it from your to-do list. Furthermore, if you need to reply to a mail later or get back to a person about something, write it down so you don't forget and make an effort to do it within 24 hours.

3.Work in 90-minutes block

According to studies, your brain can best focus for up to 90 minutes at a time. So, consider taking more breaks and break down your day  into 90-minute blocks. This will help boost your overall productivity by maximizing your brain's natural capacity to focus. Take a walk, get into a conversations with people around, you can rest your head for a while by taking a nap and then continue with your task for the day.

4.Practice stress-reduction techniques

Asides the 90-minutes block, you can use stress-reduction techniques such as meditating, listening to music, or doing yoga. These techniques can help you manage stress on the job and enhance your physical, emotional, and mental health.

5.Keep that pesky phone away.

Make sure you put your phone away! According to research, having your phone nearby, even if you are not using it, might cause you to perform 20% less than if it is out of sight.

On the other hand, you can also cut off the internet or distracting websites with apps like StayFocusd or Freedom.

We all desire the best possible use of our time. Therefore, your productivity will skyrocket by learning how to manage your time and energy.

6. Stop Multitasking

Multitasking is a very efficient tool when you have so many tasks in front of you but, when you realize you are doing jobs halfway and end up dumping it or too many tasks are just pilling up, you take a step backward and try picking your task one after the other. For the sake of emphasis, try to ensure you finish one task completely before taking on the next task.

7. Chunk similar tasks together

Batching similar tasks can help you be more efficient because you're not switching back and forth between different types of work. This is especially useful for small tasks because you can knock out a bunch at once (and get a nice kick of productivity).

Plus, you can be intentional about blocking off time for the things that distract you—such as answering text messages or checking your social feed. You can even chunk small tasks together and get them done between meetings.

Try out these techniques and see how well it works out for you.

January 11, 2022 Report: How FG Saved Over 2m Jobs Through ESP Implementation

Report: How FG Saved Over 2m Jobs Through ESP Implementation

Over 2 million jobs have been retained or created through the implementation of the Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP) programmes, reports indicate.

The reports were presented at the first meeting of the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led Economic Sustainability Committee (ESC) in 2022 at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said that ministers and heads of agencies reported further progress in the implementation of the ESP at the virtual meeting presided over by the vice president.

In response to the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, President Muhammadu Buhari had in June 2020, mandated the vice president as chair of the ESC, to coordinate the implementation of the ESP aimed at cushioning the economic effects of the global pandemic.

“Highlights of the presentations by MDAs today include the report that about 2.1 million jobs have been retained or created through the implementation of the ESP programmes.

“And the approval of N10 billion by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) to fund the deployment and local assembly of 200,000 (off-grid) Solar Homes Systems under the ‘Solar Power Naija’ partnership between both the NSIA and Rural Electrification Agency (REA).’’

In a presentation on the Survival Fund made by Amb. Mariam Katagum, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, said all states of the federation had received varying levels of the N75 billion survival Fund with its different schemes.

She added that each state would soon receive a minimum of N1.7 billion cumulative from all the schemes.

“Lagos, Abia and Kano States have already crossed the bar, with Lagos reaching over N2.5 billion and Kano over N2 billion; no state so far has received anything less than N1 billion,’’ she said.

In his presentation, Clem Agba, Minister of State, Budget and National Planning, disclosed that while about 1.3 million jobs were retained through the MSME and Payroll support, 774,000 jobs were created from the Public Works Programme and 26,021 jobs from roads construction /rehabilitation.

Moreso, the Committee was briefed that more than 1.1 million Nigerians had benefitted from the different schemes under the ESP MSMEs Survival Fund, thereby saving millions of jobs.

A breakdown showed there are 459,334 beneficiaries under the Payroll Support Scheme and 307,687 beneficiaries from the Artisan and Transport Scheme.

Similarly, 82,491 Nigerians are so far beneficiaries of the General MSME Grants Scheme, and another 17,468 of the Guaranteed Offtake Scheme.

Also, 250,000 business names were registered free under the Survival Fund’s CAC Formalisation Support Scheme.

Under the Solar Power Naija programme, Ahmad Salihijo, Managing Director/CEO of Rural Electrification Agency (REA), briefed the committee that another 60,000 solar home systems are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2022 under the NDPHC-A-solar partnership.

Over 10,000 units of the systems are to be assembled locally; this is besides the 200,000 solar connections to be funded by NSIA.

The ESP Solar Naija programme is designed to provide electricity access to 5 million households, and will serve about 25 million Nigerians in rural areas and under-served urban communities nationwide.

Sadiya Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, said that the Rapid Response Register (RRR) component under the ESP had since commenced, with 374,759 beneficiaries paid so far.

She said that another 391,185 Nigerians had been earmarked for payment soon.

The RRR is designed as an intervention to cushion the economic shocks of the COVID-19 pandemic on urban poor Nigerians currently not benefitting from the federal government’s cash transfer programme.

On the progress of the Export Expansion Facility Programme (EEFP) component of the ESP, the report showed that 281 companies had benefitted from the COVID-grant relief, while 1,105 companies were beneficiaries under the Export Development Fund (EDF), among other milestones.

While the EEFP aims to protect export businesses from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and also safeguard jobs, the EDF is a statutory provision of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council and is being activated for the first time in the history of the council under the ESP.

Also, as part of the ESP, 100 MSMEs exporters have been listed on Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce platform.

The NEPC under the ESP also trained 4,500 farmers and exporters on food safety and international standards, while 700 of them have received international certification, which only less than 50 had in Nigeria previously.

Besides, eight new Domestic Export Warehouses are currently being built, including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Abuja, to ease supply chain constraints for exporters in the country.

Report Says CBN May Increase Interest Rate This Year

A new report has said likely stronger dollar demand will convince the Central Bank of Nigeria of the need to tighten monetary conditions as with the trend across global central banks to manage foreign exchange reserve depletion.

Sigma Pensions said this in the report titled ‘Nigeria 2022 outlook: Consolidating on recovery but persisting large imbalances present headwinds’.

According to the report, the large fiscal borrowing requirements amid less liquid financial system conditions in 2022, relative to the last two years, suggest ample scope for heightened market expectations about higher interest rates.

It said, “We expect the oil sector to exit recession in 2022 as Nigeria’s crude production rebounds from the 1.6mbpd low base in 2021 towards a range of 1.8-1.85mbpd and as most OPEC+ curbs are removed by May 2022.

“Given our price and production expectations, we expect Nigeria’s external balance to improve as oil export receipts normalise to trend levels amid persisting import demand suppression on account of the CBN’s currency policy.

“We expect Nigeria’s economic growth to stabilise around 3.4 per cent in 2022, reflecting improvements across telecoms, trade, manufacturing, and oil.”

According to the report, a large fiscal borrowing plan and higher political risk premiums are expected ahead of the 2023 general elections.

It said, “Furthermore, likely stronger dollar demand will convince the CBN of the need to tighten monetary conditions as with the trend across global central banks to manage FX reserve depletion. Against this backdrop, we think the current bearish trends in the fixed income market will likely persist over 2022.

“For equity markets, we see bearish trends dominating market sentiments as the fixed income optionality becomes available to investors after a two-year hiatus and as political risk premiums on Naira risk assets heighten ahead of the 2023 general elections.”

The company expects the domestic institutional investor support in bellwether names to continue to curtail downside to the overall market.

It said, “Despite the emergence of new variants of the COVID-19 virus, we view higher vaccine coverage and the existence of drugs as supportive of further normalisation in global economic activity in 2022.

“Rising inflation expectations from a mix of supply bottlenecks and stimulus fueled demand is likely to drive a withdrawal of global monetary stimulus and incite interest rate hikes which will underpin higher US dollar interest rates.”
