Equatorial Guinea Stun Defending Champions Algeria

Equatorial Guinea stunned Algeria to leave the defending champions on the brink of a group-stage exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Esteban Obiang slid in at the far post to convert a flick-on and net the only goal with 20 minutes left in Douala.

Algeria have just one point from their opening two games and must beat Ivory Coast in their final Group E game to have a chance of reaching the last 16.

The north Africans had two goals ruled out in what was a scrappy encounter.

The result ended Algeria’s unbeaten run at 35 matches, two short of Italy’s world record set last year, as they suffered their first defeat since October 2018.

Equatorial Guinea reached the Nations Cup semi-finals as hosts in 2015 but, having qualified for the tournament by right for the first time, this will go down as one of their biggest results in their history.

Jemima Osunde Criticizes Man Who Said Presidency Is An Appreciation Gift For Bola Tinubu

Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has slammed an aide of presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu who shared a post credited to the Lagos chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The movie star reacted saying that APC should not use the country as a souvenir for their leader.

The statement shared on the Twitter page of Gawat Jubrin, that the Lagos state chapter of the APC is supporting a Bola Tinubu presidency in 2023 to show appreciation and pay him back for being “a man of honor and destiny helper for a whole lot of people.”

“We see Asiwaju’s decision to run as an opportunity for all of us who are beneficiaries of Asiwaju’s goodwill and large-heartedness, including the VP, to pay back and appreciate Asiwaju for being such a man of honour and destiny helper for a whole lot of people,” the statement read.

While responding to the post, the movie star advised the party to throw a big party for him instead of using the country as a souvenir.

“Then you guys should throw him an 80th birthday party you can even make it a surprise for him. “They don’t use to use a whole country to say thank you,” she tweeted.

ICLEI Says120m Nigerians Living In Unclean Environments

An environmentalist and African Regional Coordinator of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiative, Ene Baba Owoh, says at least 120 million Nigerians are living in unclean environments.

He said that investigations had shown that in the last 20 years, only Lagos, Bauchi and Akwa Ibom States had raised their allocations in waste management, a situation he blamed on poor implementation of relevant environmental laws in terms of monitoring, evaluation and sanctions.

Owoh, who is also the national coordinator of Clean-Up Nigeria CUN, also blamed Nigerians for leaving everything to the government, saying “for most Nigerians, they don’t believe that cleanliness is their responsibility, they believe government should do everything for them and that’s why we litter the streets and expect the government to come and clean it for us”.

Baba Says Federal Allocation Can’t Sustain Nigeria Police Trust Fund

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has said that federal allocation cannot sustain the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF)

While noting that the Nigeria Police depend heavily on the revenue accruing from the Federation Account for the implementation of its programmes and activities, the IGP said the dwindling state of national revenue has made the attainment of the mandate of re-positioning the police to change the internal security narratives of the country challenging,

The IGP spoke at Force Headquarters in Abuja, during the commissioning of N8.7bn operational vehicles and security equipment for the police.

He called on all Nigerians, corporate bodies and multinationals to key into the goals of the Fund to enable it to accomplish its laudable objectives for the Nigeria Police Force and the nation at large.
