Holders Borussia Dortmund Knocked Out By St. Pauli In Cup Tie

The German Cup holders, Borussia Dortmund, were eliminated from the competition on Tuesday after a stunning last-16 defeat to second tier side St Pauli.

Etienne Amenyido placed the ball in the back of the net from close range for the Bundesliga 2 leaders early on in the first half.

Axel Witsel further compounded the champions’ woes as he diverted a cross into his own net in the 40th minute, putting Dortmund farther behind.

Erling Braut Haaland reduced the deficit after he slotted home from the penalty spot, but St Pauli held on for a memorable victory and secure a quarter-final spot.

Presidency Says Corrupt Elites Don’t Want Another Buhari In 2023 Elections

The Presidency has said corrupt elites in the country do not want “another Buhari” in 2023 because of their selfish agenda.

The Media Aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Garba Shehu, in a statement on Tuesday, said the President’s strong legacy would be difficult to dismantle.

He explained the reasons why President Buhari cannot take a “business as usual approach” in governance.

According to him, many of the political elites in the country cannot wait for the President’s second term in office to end as they wish for a return to the “good old days” of helping themselves to public funds with abandon.

Ghana Eliminated From AFCON 2021 After Comoros Defeat In Huge Upset

Ghana was eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations group stage after debutants Comoros defeated the four-time winners.

El Fardou Ben Nabouhane put the islanders up early on, and Ghana was reduced to ten men after Andre Ayew was sent off.

Ahmed Mogni extended the lead in the second half, before the Black Stars rallied back to tie it 2-2.

Mogni, on the other hand, scored his second goal in the 85th minute to send Ghana out of the group stage for the first time since 2006.

The result in Group C will go down in history as one of the biggest upsets in Nations Cup history, as Comoros scored for the first time in the finals and then went on to win for the first time.

Despite losing their first two games in Cameroon, the 132nd-ranked Coelacanths now have a chance to go to the knockout stages as one of four best-ranked third-placed teams.

The tiny island nation, which has a population of just under a million people and is better known for its political coups than its football, had only won its first Nations Cup or World Cup qualification at the 20th attempt in 2016.

Comoros have already overcome one of the continent’s giants, with a roster strengthened by members of the diaspora, many of whom play in the lower levels in France.
