Another Kidnapped School Girl Murdered After Payment Of N3m Ransom In Kaduna

While the shock and consternation over the alleged abduction and gruesome murder of a five-year-old, Hanifa Abubakar by her teacher, Abdulmalik Tanko in Kano, is yet go down, the same fate has befallen an eight-year-old girl in Kaduna State.

The girl, identified as Asma’u Wa’alamu, who was allegedly kidnapped in Zaria, was reportedly murdered and buried in a shallow grave by her abductors even after collecting N3 million as ransom from her parents.

The young victim, according to a post on Instagram by one Musa Ahmed and shared by a group known as Haussa-Fulani, was in captivity for over a month while her father, Alhaji Shuaibu Wa’alamu, negotiated the ransom with her abductors.

The father who also narrated his bitter experience, said it was his neighbor, Kabir, who kidnapped and murdered his daughter.

The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammad Jalige, who confirmed the arrest of Kabir and other suspects involved in the abduction and murder of the girl, said investigations have commenced on the matter and the command would address the media soon.

Late De Jong Winner Edges Barcelona Past Struggling Alaves

Frenkie De Jong scored a late winner as Barcelona edged past struggling Alaves to move up to fifth in La Liga.

The Netherlands midfielder converted Ferran Torres’ first-time cross with three minutes remaining.

Xavi’s side dominated possession but it was Alaves, 19th in the table, who had the better chances.

Pere Pons fired straight at Marc-Andre ter Stegen shortly before half-time, while Joselu flashed a header wide in the second half.

The win moves Barca to within a point of fourth-placed Atletico Madrid, who they host at the Nou Camp next weekend.

Barca looked weary after back-to-back extra-time defeats over the past week, to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup last weekend and Athlectic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.

They enjoyed 76% possession and had 10 corners to Alaves’ one, but struggled to create many clear-cut openings.

A turgid match looked to be drifting to a goalless draw when Torres, signed from Manchester City earlier this month, ran onto Jordi Alba’s chipped ball over the top and laid the ball back for De Jong to finish from close range.

Nigeria’s task was made harder when Alex Iwobi was sent off following a video assistant referee review.

The West Africans were the only side to win all three group games in Cameroon, but were largely subdued against a Tunisia side hit by Covid-19.

Nigeria forward Umar Sadiq fired across goal and wide in injury time after Moses Simon had earlier had an effort blocked by Bechir Ben Said.

Tunisia, Nations Cup winners in 2004, will face Burkina Faso in the last eight on Saturday, 29 January.
