Mayorkun Discloses The Reason Why He Kept His Mother’s Identity A Secret

In a recent interview, Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, opened up about the reasons behind keeping his mother's identity a secret for many years. He emphasized that during his formative years, he preferred not to disclose that his mother was the renowned Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale.

Before attaining fame, Mayorkun and his brother desired to lead ordinary lives, which proved challenging given their mother's widespread popularity. They consciously kept their mother's identity low-key to achieve their desired freedom.

Mayorkun explained, “Growing up, my brother and I didn’t like that our mom was a popular actress because we wanted freedom, but with her fame came fake attention."

The singer further revealed that his choice to keep his mother's identity under wraps was also driven by humility. He expressed his desire for people to appreciate him for who he is, without any bias, based on his mother's fame.

“I hated being treated differently, not because you like me but because I am Toyin Adewale’s son," he added.

Mayorkun reflected on his university days at the University of Lagos, where he pursued a degree in accounting. During this time, he went to great lengths to maintain a normal lifestyle and successfully kept his mother's identity hidden for the four years of his higher education.

He recounted, “Even at my university, people didn’t know she was my mother for four years. I was intentional about this. My mum brought food to me at school once, and a girl saw her. I quickly ran to her to get what she came with, just so no one else saw her.”

Mayorkun, the eldest of his parents' three children, was born into a family of entertainers, and it is no surprise that he followed suit and became an entertainer himself.

In a recent interview, Whitemoney expressed his conviction: "My latest single, Oyoyo, is at the moment the biggest song in the East. That track deserves a Grammy, and this is not me capping; rather, I am just stating the fact.”

Not stopping at his achievements in the music industry, the multi-talented personality disclosed his aspirations for a career in Nollywood. He shared, “I believe I have the ability, talent, and charisma to be a top Nollywood superstar. I have a couple of movies in the works. Before the end of the year, they would hit the cinemas.”

Angry Fans Slam Eagles Poor Performance Against Zimbabwe

After another lackluster performance against Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifier, some fans have once again criticized the Super Eagles, labeling their display as a disgraceful outing. Jose Peseiro's team struggled to a 1-1 draw against the Warriors in the second game of the qualifiers.

The draw leaves the Eagles with just two points out of a possible six, having drawn their first game against a lowly-ranked Lesotho side at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Thursday.

Despite making six changes from the side that drew with the Crocodiles, including handing a debut to Nathan Tella, and featuring Ola Aina, Bruno Onyemaechi, Joe Aribo, Moses Simon, and Terem Moffi in the Starting XI, the alterations failed to impact the team's fortunes significantly.

Unlike their dominant performance against Lesotho, the Eagles were on the back foot. In the 15th minute, they had a good chance to score, but debutant Tella failed to deliver a quality cross, and Zimbabwe cleared their lines.

Peseiro's continued faith in Francis Uzoho backfired when Walter Musona's 35-yard free-kick beat the goalkeeper in the 26th minute, giving the Warriors a lead. Despite halftime changes by the Portuguese tactician, introducing Bright Osayi-Samuel, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Victor Boniface, the Eagles struggled to find their rhythm.

Iheanacho eventually equalized in the 67th minute, but the Eagles couldn't secure a winning goal despite nine additional minutes of play after regulation time. The Zimbabweans held their ground well to claim another point.

In response to the disappointing performance, fans took to social media to express their frustration. Content creator Omotayo of Lagos stated, "Zero shame and ambition; sack that nonsense coach." David Simi added, "You guys are not ashamed; better sack that man called a coach." Sorochi Akawor rhetorically asked, "Una no get shame like this?" Alagbe Samson believed the Eagles could have lost the game if their opponents were more clinical.

He said, "Zimbabwe wasted some chances towards the end of the match, including an open net chance. The last match I remember against Zimbabwe was a 5-0 win at Abuja in Germany's 2006 World Cup Qualifiers. Angola pipped Nigeria to the ticket on head-to-head rules. The coaching crew should prepare the team better for the next round of matches." Clement Mbanugo jokingly tweeted, "The calculator price will increase because of Super Eagles fans. Let me go and use my heart for something meaningful."

Nigerian Missions In The US Resolve Passport Service Disruption

The Nigerian missions in the United States have effectively addressed the "technical challenges" that disrupted passport services over the past few days. The glitches, attributed to a malfunctioning server, suspended biometric processing for passport applicants since November 13, 2023.

In an official communication, the Nigerian consulate in the U.S. confirmed the successful resolution of the technical issues and announced the resumption of passport services from Monday onwards.

The consulate clarified that an internet outage occurred at the Embassy due to a server malfunction, necessitating the rescheduling of biometric capture appointments initially slated for November 13th to 16th. The new schedule spans from Monday, November 20, to Wednesday, November 22, 2023.

Affected applicants are strongly advised to visit the Embassy on any of the rescheduled days to complete their biometric capture process.

A source within the embassy reported that the issue was effectively rectified over the weekend. The source stated, "The system is back over the weekend. The experts worked tirelessly to resolve it, and we are back. We fixed it yesterday (Saturday) and test-ran it. The system is back, and all the centers are fine in New York and Atlanta. The server in DC is connected to Atlanta and New York, so whatever happens to our server affects other missions."
