FG Moves To Crash Cooking Gas Price

The Federal Government has initiated a process to resolve challenges bordering on the supply and pricing of liquefied petroleum gas in the country’s domestic market, better known as cooking gas.

In a statement by Louis Ibah, the spokesman for the Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the ministry waded into the issue following a rise in the price of LPG per kilogram from about N700 to above N1,100 in some parts of the country.

He said the meeting, which was called by the minister, had major private and government stakeholders in attendance.

Ekpo expressed the concerns of President Bola Tinubu over the astronomical increase in the price of cooking gas and the attendant hardship for the majority of citizens.

The minister, who noted that Nigeria is abundantly endowed with gas reserves, said the situation where some of the multinational firms were more concerned with gas exports without dedicating huge volumes to the domestic market was unacceptable and should be discouraged.

Police Deny Torturing Suspect To Death In Ogun, Commence Autopsy

The Ogun state police command has denied torturing a suspected cultist, Seyi Samson, to death.

The State Police Command arrested Samson over cult-related activities, and has been in police custody.

Reports had emerged that the 39-year-old was tortured by the police while in custody, but the police said there is no iota of truth in the allegation.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said the Command holds a strong commitment to upholding fundamental human rights laws, particularly when it comes to the treatment of suspects.

In a statement, she said torture is strictly against the protocols and principles of the police.

She stated that the deceased was already charged with cult-related activities, and he was taken to court last Thursday, where he was to be arraigned before a special Court on a cultism case in Sabo Abeokuta.

Odutola said the court did not sit, and he was taken back to Eleweran in Abeokuta to return to court the next day.

She, however, said at about 5 am on Friday, the 24th of November, Samson went berserk, shouting, biting and assaulting other suspects in the cell until he got exhausted.

The police PRO said his cell mates alerted the operatives on duty. He was allegedly taken to the police hospital and later to Ijaye General Hospital Abeokuta, along with his bite victims.  While other suspects were treated and discharged, the statement said Seyi died at the hospital.
