Organ Harvesting: Ekweremadu’s Wife Granted Bail

Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, the wife of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, was released on bail after being held in custody for one month.

The judge said, 'I have granted bail to Beatrice subject to some fairly stringent conditions'.

On Friday, July 22, 2022, Ekweremadu and his wife, who are currently on trial for charges related to organ harvesting, came before the central criminal court in London.

How it all began: The congressman and his wife were charged in June with smuggling a 21-year-old into the UK so they could remove his kidney for their sick daughter.

The judge, Richard Marks, decided on the case on Friday and granted Ekweremadu's wife bail.

The position is that I have granted bail to Beatrice subject to some fairly stringent conditions but I have refused bail to Ike,” the judge was quoted to have said.

In a report released on Monday, July 25, 2022, Foundry Chambers, a law firm identified as representatives for the Ekweremadus stated,“Anu Mohindru Q.C., together with Szilvia Booker, at a hearing on 22/07/22 before the Common Sergeant at the Central Criminal Court secured bail for Beatrice Ekweremadu, the wife of the former Nigerian Deputy Senate leader, Ike Ekweremadu, who is charged together with her husband and Obina Obeta, said to be a middleman in relation to these arrangements with offences of arranging or facilitating the travel of David Nwamini Ukpo with a view to him being exploited, contrary to s.2(1) and 5(1) Modern Slavery Act 2015 and conspiracy to commit such an offence.”

The essence of the allegation against the defendants is that (using intermediaries) they recruited David Ukpo, a homeless Nigerian male living in Lagos and, on 22nd February 2022, brought him to the UK for the purposes of harvesting a kidney from him to be used for the benefit of their daughter.

“An application for bail on Friday was refused for Ike Ekweremadu but granted for Beatrice on strict conditions to ensure her attendance and obviate any concerns of her being a flight risk ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing scheduled to take place on 4th August 2022 and a subsequent trial next year.”

In the meantime, a south London-based Nigerian doctor has been accused with conspiring with the Ekweremadus on the organ harvesting case.

BBNaija’s Ike Warns Mercy Eke, Threatens To Expose Her

Ike Onyema, a former housemate on Big Brother Naija, has threatened to reveal his ex-girlfriend Mercy Eke if she keeps making unfavorable remarks about him.

While responding to previous remarks made by Eke about their relationship, the reality TV star made this clear.

Mercy Eke had revealed during one of the episodes of the podcast 'Frankly Speaking' that she once dated someone she was taking care of.

When one of the hosts, Nedu, assumed she was talking to their well-publicized romance, she vehemently denied dating Ike.

Ike quickly refuted the notion that any lady had ever looked after him while they were together.

"I am responding to this, because it’s obvious that the producers of this podcast can’t pay for ads to promote the dead podcast, so as usual, they look for who to attack to indirectly promote their dead podcast, well congratulations you have Triggered perfectly, for over two years my image and reputation have constantly been dragged to the mud," he wrote.

"So it’s time to swim with pigs, I am making a bold statement that no lady whosoever has taken care of me. If anyone claims otherwise they should bring out receipts of one thing they have done, I have been quiet because I don’t also want to expose so many people including the show."

"So I intentionally allowed myself to be ridiculed, but that era is over, people that can’t take care of their family coming out to chat shit about me, @nedu_wazobiafm and @prettymikeoflagos please be careful how involve yourself in things you have no idea of the background story."

"I respect both of you but I would not hesitate to call you guys out if I’m being disrespected to please your principals and the bosses that hired you. This should be the last time anyone would use me to count cheap scores."

"I would start dropping receipts and exposing everyone if this continues, I have enough receipts to go around and everybody go collect, enough is enough!!!!! A word is enough for the wise!!!!!"

Following their time together in Big Brother Naija's fourth season, Eke and Ike started dating.

By 2020, it was clear that the widely publicized couple had problems.

Eke claimed that she had gotten married by November of that year.

She also urged followers to refrain from enquiring about her ex-boyfriend.
