Chioma Onyekwere of Nigeria won the gold medal in the women's debate on Tuesday night, giving her nation a total of three gold medals at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Jade Lally of England was defeated by the 27-year-old competitor, while Onyekwere's fellow countryman Obiageri Amaechi won the bronze.
Onyekewere passed English competitor Jade Lally, who had held the lead from the competition's initial throw of 57.33 meters, by throwing 61.70 meters on her fourth try.
The Nigerian, who started with 55.82 meters, knew she would need more than her 58.19 meters to win the gold medal at the African Championships held in Mauritius last June.
Obiageri Amaechi, the defending champion from Nigeria, won the bronze medal with a throw of 56.99 meters in the fifth round, thereby cementing Team Nigeria's legacy by producing two medalists in the Discus Throw competition for the first time.
