JUST IN: Rishi Sunak Emerges New UK Prime Minister

Iain Duncan Smith, a former leader of the Conservative Party who backed Truss during her leadership contest against Sunak in the summer, has said he is now backing the ex-chancellor.

“It is time for us to end the leadership contest and get a PM in place ASAP. I have reached the decision that senior experience at the heart of government matters most. To that end I shall support Rishi Sunak,” he tweeted.

Rishi Sunak has been elected as the next Conservative Party Leader in the United Kingdom.

According to Sir Graham Brady's declaration, the 1922 Committee received just one nomination for the future head of the party, which was supported by 100 MPs.

Sir Brady therefore designated Sunak to be the future party leader and, as a result, the new Prime Minister.

He announced that Rishi Sunak, the incoming Tory leader, will address MPs at 14:30 BST.

Tinubu Says Atiku Should Endorse Him Because He Supported Him In 2007

Tinubu believes that rather than competing with him, Atiku should back his presidential ambition, as he did in 2007.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, believes Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, should back him rather than run for president.

Tinubu stated this on Monday, October 17, 2022, at an interactive session with the Arewa Joint Committee at Arewa House in Kaduna state.

Responding to Atiku's recent ethnocentric remark, the governing party's presidential candidate said he sees himself as a pan-Nigerian.

He said: “You (referring to Atiku) started from Uyo and now ended up in Kaduna and you are speaking to the North that you are the right candidate for the North; how do we reconcile that? You have lost the election.”

Tinubu further said instead of competing with him, Atiku ought to endorse his presidential bid having supported him in 2007.

t’s payback time. Let Atiku endorse me instead of campaigning in Kaduna. I supported him in 2007,” he said.

Tinubu told the gathering which comprised the Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Elders Forum, Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Jamiyyar Matan Arewa, the Center for Historical Development Research (Arewa House) as well as the Arewa Research and Documentation Project, that he’s one of them.

Tinubu promised that his government would defeat the rag-tag bandits terrorising the northern region,

“As you are aware, security is a function of resources. I am committed to mobilising all assets within our national power to secure Nigeria.

“We did this in Lagos through many initiatives, especially the Security Trust Fund, through which we addressed many needs of our security forces which helped to sanitise Lagos State.

As you may recall, when I assumed office as governor in 1999, the situation I met was basically a case of banditry where urban gangs ruled the streets.

“I returned law and order, tamed what could have been a huge ethnic war and made Lagos one of the safest states in Nigeria. I will replicate that across the country,” he said.

He also said under his leadership, the Nigerian military would receive a much-needed injection of trained personnel to strengthen the heroic efforts of the troops that are currently in service.

October 4, 2022 Iga Swiatek Pulls Out Of Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Iga Swiatek Pulls Out Of Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Tennis world number one Iga Swiatek has vilified the upcoming scheduling of tennis events, stating she will be unable to compete at next month's Billie Jean King Cup Finals.

The 21-year-old had planned to represent Poland in the finals, which begin in Glasgow on 8 November.

However, the WTA Finals in Texas are due to end the day before.

The three-time Grand Slam champion said the schedule "is not safe", adding she felt "sad" to miss an event.

"I was thinking it through a lot and discussing it with my team, but I will not be able to play at the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow," Swiatek announced in a post on Instagram.

"It makes me sad. I'm very sorry, because I play for Poland whenever it's possible and I always give it my best.

"Playing in Poland this year [in the qualifiers] was an honour and I hoped to do this again at the end of the season."

Swiatek won her first US Open title last month, with the title being her second major win in 2022 after triumphing at the French Open for a second time.
September 30, 2022 Norrie Pulls Out Of Korea Open An Hour Before Quarter-Final

Norrie Pulls Out Of Korea Open An Hour Before Quarter-Final

Cameron Norrie pulled out of the Korea Open less than an hour before he was due on court to play his quarter-final against American Jenson Brooksby.

The ATP confirmed the second seed was unable to play because of illness.

Norrie, 27, said he was suffering from jet lag after beating Japan's Kaichi Uchida 6-2 6-2 in the previous round.

The British number one has risen to eighth in the world and is chasing a place at the season-ending ATP finals in Turin in November.

He has won two titles this year and reached the top 10 for the first time, but is currently 11th in the Race to Turin rankings with a top-eight finish needed to qualify.

Norrie is the third seeded player to withdraw from the Korea Open after sixth seed Borna Coric dropped out on Monday and third seed Taylor Fritz withdrew on Thursday.

His next tournament is set to be the Japan Open in Tokyo, which starts on 3 October.

Top seed and world number two Casper Ruud, of Norway, plays Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Brooksby, who is eighth seed, will now play Canada's Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals on Saturday.
